Moving wordpress site

I’m trying to move my wordpress site – its domain and content is currently hosted with go daddy. I have upgraded to premium. What else do I need to do beofre cancelling the hosting on the other server?

Don’t cancel your GoDaddy hosting until your site is safely up at it’s new location and you can view the images. The process depends on having the old site live and publicly accessible so the images can be transferred. I have been using a self hosted website for three years but I haven’y been adding to my blog for a year. I don’t want to pay this year so I thought I’d go to wordpress.com. I’ve created my user account but can’t bring my content across. I need to update Jetpack but for some reason I am unable to do that.

I have followed those steps as far as I could but the message I get is
Oh, no! We couldn’t fetch your pages. Then it asks me to check my internet connection which is fine. -
