moving wordress blog to new domain
-
I have set up a new wordpress blog at greatsales-thespecialist.com, moved the archives over, and would like visitors at greatsales.wordpress.com to be seamlessly? directed to the new url. Ok, I am a little confused as to exactly how this happens. I was under the impression at first that the old bookmarks and feeds would work, as I do not want to lose what few loyal readers I have. Am I wrong about this? What am I missing here?

We covered it here yesterday and this morning:

Staff will not allow forwarding as it’s too easy to be abused by spammers. Some suggestions are made in that thread. Do not that the suggestion of a temp redirect in that poster’s case was made for a special reason and it’s not supported normally. (Gotta admit that I still feel that it should be done in that case as it’s a third party that’s causing the issue.) I would add in make a post that says you’ve moved to a new domain and give links to both the new site and RSS.
Not sure why you moved. You can host the domain here for $10 a year and not lose anything. All the URLs would have remained the same even with the new domain. Redirects would work then. It’s because you’ve moved elsewhere is what’s causing your issues.
