How do I download my blog to my desktop so that I can upload it from my desktop to BlueHost?

Thank you Trent. BlueHost has 2.1.x
From what I read I need to CREATE AN XML export of my posts this way:
ADMIN => MANAGE => EXPORT and this will give you the XML export of all your posts.

From this I understand that I don’t need to do this because I am not installing WP 2.1, it’s already installed there at Blue Host. Have I understood this correctly?
If you install WP 2.1, you can do the opposite to import the entries once you have the install up and running by ADMIN => MANAGE => IMPORT and choose the WordPress import tool.

The pictures at http://2007march16.wordpress.com are PART OF THE POSTS they were exported directly from flickr to my blog at the aforementioned address.

Should I take a look at the code to see if the URL is specified per se and then change it after export to reflect the new URL?

These photos are NOT sorted on my computer and I did not “manually” create WP files. I don’t know if the exportaton from flickr to WP “created” files or not or if one site is simply sharing information with another at a specific location.

I will create the XML now. Is there anything else I need to do? I’ll go back to the post you directed me to because I believer there was another link that I may have been directed to read.

    Thanks again.

You have it figured out! If you didn’t actually upload to your 2007march16 blog and did things through Flickr, it just would have hyperlinked the entry to your flickr photo and that will still work. As long as you don’t delete your wordpress.com blog, you can take all the time you want moving over files you did upload because they will still resolve in the posts on your new blog.

It should be pretty straight forward from there! The ‘auto-install’ of WP 2.1 will give you the install at Bluehost.com (where I have my forum is on bluehost.com). Then you just import! While I can try to help out, I suggest we move this over to wordpress.org now as it is getting into a self-hosted issue. Once you have created your export file, that is as far as wordpress.com support goes and the self-install help begins!

I help out there as well, but there are many who know it better than I do, so don’t worry about asking questions!

    Wow.

This is great! Thank you Trent. I really appreciate the tip about not deleting the blog on WP.com.

Also I really appreciate the way you brought to mind visions of Dorothy following the yellow brick road. There was something that the good witch said, I can’t remember. Something about going so far with Dorothy and then Dorothy would have to continue on her own.

I mean not that I’m continuing on my own it’s just like I’m going from one territory to the other and it’s all fantasy land to me with no borders that I can see because I am new to Oz and it’s culture.

Something about your writing style also reminds me of JRR Tolkein. It’s marvelous. Thanks for your help, your clarity and your prose.

Okay, now back to the XML download then Im off to see the WordPress.org.
