MS Word Footnotes not transferring in WordPress
-
Hi,
I recently noticed that the Paste from Microsoft Word button has been excised from the Visual Editor. I understand that you can now just copy and paste from Word directly into the Visual Editor without the need for the button, and it appears to largely work correctly. I am experiencing one significant problem in that the footnotes/endnotes are not transferring properly. The text of the footnote is pasted, yet there is no code linking it to the actual reference in the main text; the footnotes just come through as: [1] footnote text.
I’ve tried using Firefox, Internet Explore, Chrome, and Opera, but the exact same thing happens with each of these browsers. Apart from going through each footnote individually (and considering I deal with hundreds of them that would take forever), is there a means to get the footnotes to properly transfer from Word to Pressbooks.
Thanks for your help.

You may want to try using Windows Live Writer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/

Thanks. I had come across those threads before but they didn’t contain any helpful information that fixed my problem.
Is there an ETA for a fix to this?

But do you know if they are planning on fixing it so all of the formatting remains when you copy and paste from word?

That’s what I was expressing and the answer is “no”. The paste from WORD button will not be restored. The paste as plain text button does just that ie. it eliminates all code. So it seems that using Windows Live Writer is worth a try as the code may be preserved when using to post to your blog.

Ok thanks for your help.
Heavens knows why WordPress decided to make things worse by getting rid of the paste from Word button.

I know how you feel. We do expect and upgrade will result in improved features and even more useful features. We do not expect upgrades to result in the removal of useful features that we previously relied on using. We do not expect to end up with having to use convoluted and time consuming workarounds that we are compelled to use to replace what we had previous to the “improvements” being made.
