Multi languages without plugins

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi everybody,

I am working on a new website for a company and I need to translate the whole content.

I have used the Google Translate widget, which is not accurate at all. After more research I could only find plugins.

Now my question is, can I properly translate a website without using plug ins?

Because the website is almost done, all I need is the translation, and that costing 200 euros a year more seems unnecessary to me.

Please let me know if you can help me with this issue.

    Best regards,

    Hi @caseificiogennari,

We have some guidance, including a handy video tutorial, for creating a multilingual site under your current plan:

    Set Up a Multilingual Site

If you require a more custom option then you could consider using a third-party plugin, such as WPML or Polylang. There are two different approaches that you could consider if you wish to install a third-party plugin:

    1. As you mentioned in your question, you can upgrade to WordPress.com Business. It’s possible to upload third-party plugins under our Business plan:

    2. You could move your site to a different host, such as Pressable, and install the free software available at WordPress.org. It’d then be possible for you to access your theme’s code and install third-party plugins.

If you’re not familiar with the differences between the two types of WordPress (WordPress.com and WordPress.org) then I recommend the following guide, which gives a good overview on the two:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Take a look through the above information and don’t hesitate to let me know if you have questions.
