multi user discussion
-
Hi there and first let me say thank you to the WP staff and volunteers that run this forum.
I run a sports/health and fitness related blog http://gaijinkettlebell.wordpress.com and I would like to be able to have a weekly discussion on a topic, whereby selected users can answer and contribute to the same initial post.
As it is, comments dont show on the main initial post page, which I understand and accept.
However, it might be really useful to have a feature such as this where more than one writer ( and even a reader!) can add further thoughts to a discussion point, and the reader can just scroll down to read the rest of the related comments and contributions.
This feature could be a formatting choice when a user makes a new post. Good idea?bad?
Comments welcome!
Cheers

You can do this using the P2 theme, I believe. You could change it just for the one day.
I think it’s a bad idea. I have a post with over 1500 comments, and it would slow the blog down to the point where people who don’t have broadband connections (ie most of the world) would b e unable to load the blog at all, let alone participate in the blog.

Ah.. to have 1500 comments…
With set parameters, it could be useful- ie max number of replies as a default, then the thread closes.
I would want this to be ableto stay up on the site and be continuing on a different page whilwe the regular blog site functions as normal though..So you think P2 could handle this kind of thing?Hmm- will have to check it out. Now a blog with both a regular format, and an on/off switch P2… that sounds interesting!
Thanks for your comments raincoaster.

I think what you want then is a static page, not a blog post. That sits outside the normal structure of teh blog and thus it wouldn’t interfere with the regular part of the blog. I haven’t used the P2 theme myself, but you could try it. It wouldn’t be necessary, though, as anyone looking at the static page is by definition also looking at the comments.
