multi users for one blog

I want to sent up a blog for 6 family members to beable to add to it. Can we share one password? And one user name? Or do we all need different one’s.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can certainly share, but then there will be no way to tell which one is posting unless each person includes a byline at the top of their posts.

Probably the best way would be for each person to have their own account/username/password. You would add them to the blog as explained here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/ .

Ok I sent them invites. I understand that later I can add them as Authors, right? One more question. I have two blogs registered now with wordpress. I want one to be public and the other one that I share with my family to be private. How do I do this?

Simply set the one you want to be private to private at settings > privacy.

One of my cousins replied to the invite. But right now she is a Contributor. I went to Users and click on Author/users. Where it says Add User From Community I added her e-mail address and changed her to a Author. A yellow line came up with “User not added. User is already registered.” And she is she listed as a contributor. How do I change her to a Author?

Click the box next to your cousin’s name at authors and users and then from the roles pulldown at upper center above the list, you can change the user role. Make sure and click “change” to the right of the pulldown to commit the change.

Thank you so much! That worked! I was clicking on apply instead of change. Next question? She is worried she will mess up making a page just for her self,on the blog. Can I make and set up a page for her and then she can add to it?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, but you’ll need to Edit the author info to change it so it appears to be made by her.

Contributors and authors cannot make “pages.” They can only make posts: http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/ .

My suggestion is to set her up with a category that she can use and assign to all her posts (it could be her name or username or whatever the two of you decide). Then when she makes a post, she can just assign that category to her post.

You can also use the “author’s” widget which will then show you and her in that widget, and if someone wants to see only the posts one of you have made, they can click on the author in the widget and it will bring up all their posts. Same with the category if you go that way.

Okay, I have no problem with making any of my family members Editor’s, instead of Author’s. But can I still make and set up page’s for them as Editor’s on this blog? Then I could e-mail them and tell them how to edit their own page.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes you can, though you need to remember that a page is not a post and you cannot put posts on a page. Think of a page as a single post (although it is more limited than that). If they want to add to it, they will either have to edit the page and then put new material at the bottom of the page, or bump stuff down and put the new material at the top of the page. There will also only be one comment section for the entire page. If they post a lot of stuff, they page can quickly get very, very long and anyone coming to the page might have some trouble figuring out where they left off reading, or what is new and what is not. They can of course make sure and put a heading and a date at the top of any new material.

Wow! Thank you for making it so simple for even this old Tncountrygal to understand. I think I will tell them they have to date anything they enter on the page before they enter it. My hope is they will learn a little/ to learn a lot and then set up their own blog. I am trying to teach younger dogs new tricks.LOL! Again I will say “Thank you so very much for your easy to follow advice !!.
But beware I may be asking you more soon! Tncountrygal

You’re very welcome, and good luck with the new tricks.
