Multiple accounts

Hi! I’m trying to contact customer support and just keep ending up in a never-ending loop of links that don’t send me to help! I just opened my new site through a different hosting service. There, I set up an administrator log-in with my main email address. However, if I go to the actual WordPress site and try to log in, I have 2 different old accounts, one of which uses that same main email address. So If I log in through the admin dashboard, I can access my site, but if I log in through the WordPress site, I get sent to a completely different old site. I would like to delete my old accounts, but without messing up my new site log in and email username. Is there someone who can help me with this??

    WP.com: Unknown
    Jetpack: Unknown
    Correct account: Unknown

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

Can you let us know what the URL is of the site where you’re having this problem? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.

NOTE: We can only assist with websites hosted here at WordPress.com. If you’re using the WordPress software, but hosted elsewhere, you will need to reach out to your hosting provider or the WordPress.org community for guidance:

    Thank you!

The 2 “sites” or accounts I’d like to get rid of are kelseybethcarpenter.wordpress.com and vettechkelsey.wordpress.com. The new site I’ve launched and will be keeping is vettechkelsey.com (it is hosted by Siteground, I just want to make sure if I delete those other sites/accounts that this new site/account won’t be affected).

I think I’m just confused about why logging in through the WordPress site is different than logging in through an admin page.

    Thanks for that information!

kelseybethcarpenter.wordpress.com is connected to the account you’re currently logged into, so you have a few options here.

    1. Set the site to private. This will preserve your site content in case you ever want to host your site here again.

    2. Delete the site. This would delete all your site content, media, and the specific URL – the kelseybethcarpenter.wordpress.com URL would not be able to be used in the future.

The site vettechkelsey.wordpress.com is associated with a different WordPress.com account than the one you’re currently logged into, so you would need to log out of this account and into the other WordPress.com user account to either set the site to be private or delete it.

I think I’m just confused about why logging in through the WordPress site is different than logging in through an admin page.

Your WordPress.com account is not the same as the account you use to log into your site via wp-admin.

Your site hosted with Siteground would not be affected if you delete the aforementioned WordPress.com sites.

    I hope that clarifies things!

That helps a lot, thank you so much for explaining!

I just have a few clarifying questions.
    (1) I’m also an admin on another WP site that also uses my main email address to log in. I want to confirm that deleting kelseybethcarpenter.wordpress.com would not affect my admin account on another site even though they both use the same email?

    (2) If I delete kelseybethcarpenter.wordpress.com, I won’t be able to use that url ever again. However, if I were to purchase a custom domain (kelseybethcarpenter.com), I could still use that in the future, is that right?

    (3) If I delete kelseybethcarpenter.wordpress.com, I won’t be able to use that domain in the future, but I should still be able to create an account with that same associated email address in the future?

Thank you for all your help, I’m very new and very confused and I appreciate your patience and explanations! I’m just so scared of messing something up.

  • Hi! The only risk in deleting the site in this case is that you won’t be able to use the free “kelseybethcarpenter.wordpress.com” address again.

And if it helps with the confusion, remember WordPress.com is a service. WordPress.org is free software. You have been using both, and it since you only want one site, it makes sense to use just one – though you’d be welcome to choose us!

If you don’t want to use WordPress.com right now, but might later, I’d recommend just making kelseybethcarpenter.wordpress.com private so you will have the option to use that again if you’d like. You can even block emails if you don’t want them: https://wordpress.com/me/notifications

If you do decide to just delete the site, yes you can register a custom domain later. No problem. It’s just the free address that will be permanently deactivated. And that won’t affect your WordPress.org installation with another host, either. Just be sure you’re using wp-admin to log into that, so you’re in the right dashboard.

    Does that help?
