Multiple Authors to Blog

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi, I want to be able to write as my current username @mattgilkerson, but also author things on my blog as my blog title ‘The Journey Guidbook’. I’ve created a separate email account to add myself as an author, but it says the username is taken when I try to re-sign up. Do you have tips?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @MattGilkerson,

    If you the blog site which you created is already associated to your @mattgilkerson account, then you can you just send an invite using the new email address from within your dashboard.

    From the website dashboard click on the ‘Add’ button next to the ‘People’ menu item. Then fill in the form, starting with the secondary email address you are using.

    Currently, thejourneyguidebook does not show up as a valid WordPress.com user, so the name should still be available.

    I hope this route helps you out.

    Adventure on.

    Thank you! I get to the section where I have to sign up to start managing TJB, and I’m getting an error trying to use “thejourneyguidebook”. It says “Choose a different username. This one is not available.”

    Any tips?

    @mattgilkerson

    Okay, so after further research, it appears that WordPress.com usernames and url subdomains are the same. Meaning that since you have reserved the ‘thejourneyguidebook.wordpress.com’ the username ‘thejourneyguidebook’ will not be available to yourself or anyone else. Which is why you are receiving the error, even though the individual user does not exist.

    Here is a discussion I found around this subject: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/username-not-available-3/

    And another with someone who had the same issue as you: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/username-not-available-although-it-is-not-used/

    So at this point, you won’t be able to have both ‘mattgilkerson’ and ‘thejourneyguidebook’ as user names.
