multiple blogs

This may be a silly question but I’ve heard that Google is strict about coywrite infringement so I want to make sure. I have a blog here on wordpress and one on Googles blogger. Right now I am just copying and pasting from one to the other. Since they both belong to me this is not a proble, right?

no, but a bigger question is–why are you doing this?
You will dilute the number of actual links one blog would get, so your google ranking will be lower than it might be.

I am considering switching to blogger so I can add adsense, but as of yet I can’t even get my google blog to show up on a google search plus I just don’t care for their service as much as wordpress, so I’m still on the fence about the whole thing.

You really should pick one or the other. When you duplicate content like that, Google and other search engines think you’re a spammer and you get dumped waaaaay down in the searches.

Staff have requested when someone has a blog here that’s a duplicate of one somewhere else, that this one be set to private.

Under Options, go to Privacy and you can set it there.

Also, if I close my account here and decide that I hate blogger can I come back?

You can’t actually close a WordPress.com account. You CAN delete a blog, or you can just leave it. WP.com never does anything to them, and they won’t give away teh URL if you go away, either. As long as you remember your username and password you can start it up again.

My two cents? I teach blogging and blog for a living. If you are serious about search engine ranking, go with WordPress.com and use appropriate categories (although never more than 12). I have blogs at Blogger, at Tumblr, independent WordPress, and WordPress.com, and this one has by FAR the most pull with the search engines.

Also: although there’s no timeline on this, they keep dangling the “Blogger-initiated ads” carrot in front of us, saying that it may be coming soon. Who knows? But they know people want it. Right now only VIP blogs can have ads, and it’s not really worth $200 a month to me.

  • We don’t close accounts, so you can always come back. :-)

If you delete your blog, you’ll have to create a new one though.

Oh, do note that if you delete it, you can never get it back. Not the content, not the URL either.

Thank you for all of your help! I still don’t know what to do. I started this to make some money but I’m with you, I like wordpress sooo much better! I’ve made some good friends here too :)

You can get independent hosting and use independent WordPress, which you can find at WordPress.org. That will let you run ads, although you won’t have the global category page SEO advantage. It’s not horrifically difficult, even if you’re not techie.
