multiple blogs

If I have multiple blogs on WP, do I have to change each one? Or just the main blog, the one with which I sign in? And will this destroy everything I’ve done over the last 13 years that I’ve been blogging?

Sorry about that. Because I get a big “warning” message every time I sign on that they are going to update WordPress whether I want to or not, I figured everyone was being affected by this.
The message tells me there is a new version of WP, where everything will be in blocks. The information does say I can choose the old editing forms, but there is no info about what it will do to my blogs. And no search has turned up anything about whether I need to update each blog individually, or if one update covers all three blogs. (All are associated with my original blog.) Also, doing searches online has all kinds of warnings about what you have to do if your blog is ruined by the transition. So not at all reassuring — especially when one has a blog that is 13 years old.
So if I choose “update,” do I do it from my original blog, and the others will just be updated? And what are the odds that anything will go right? (The documentation from WP sounds as if the only real promise of no problems is for those who have been blogging for a year or less.)
I need a bit of reassurance and a lot of information about this inevitable update. And I’d like to know if there is any way I can keep the formatting I’ve used for the last 13 years. I don’t want the “block format.” I want what I have now.
Thanks for any insight you can offer.

Hi there,
In December 2018 version 5.0 of the open source WordPress software was released. In that version the block editor became the default editor for WordPress.
Up until now, we’ve still had our own version of the classic editor available to use if you created posts from My Sites. That editor is now being retired, as it’s not feasible for us to continue maintaining our own editor in addition to the one included in the WordPress software itself.
There is nothing you need to do from your end – all sites hosted on WordPress.com are in the process of being switched over to the block editor already, and this will happen automatically. That notice is just to give you ample warning that the change is coming so it doesn’t catch you unawares, though you do have the option to already switch to using the block editor manually if you want to. There is no option to opt out of this – the classic editor in My Sites is being completely removed from our codebase, and will no longer exist.
If you prefer the classic editor, we recommend you use the classic block:
You can also still access a version of the classic editor via the Classic Editor plugin installed on WordPress.com, but that editor will only be available in WP-Admin, not in My Sites, and it cannot be set as the default editor on your site – you’ll need to select that editor manually every time you create or edit a post.
This is just the editor in the admin interface that’s changing. Existing content on your site will not be affected at all, unless you edit an existing post created in the classic editor, using the block editor – at that point the content of that post will be inserted into a classic block so that you can still edit it inside the block editor.

Thank you for replying — but this really just repeats what the site already says. Since I have to select the classic-block in order for it to work, I obviously have to do something, rather than just sit and wait. So the question still remains, do I have to update each blog individually, or do I just do this on my original blog and the others will follow?
And since the only instruction offered is “use classic block,” is this something that will be obvious if I initiate the update (which the message urges me to do)?
Also, while existing text won’t be affected, will “classic block” allow me to continue to use a format similar to what I have now? And what other changes can I expect? Will Akismet still operate? Thanks for any insights.

Your older posts should just continue to work without update. It’s the newer ones where you’ll be deciding between editors. We have more info about transitioning here:

Akismet isn’t related to the editors at all, so it will still work as long as your key is active.

Thanks. But still trying to find out about multiple blogs. I have three different blogs on WP — different names, different URLS. All are connected to my initial blog. So does selecting classic block on one put classic block on all three? Or do I have to make the changes on each blog individually.

Your sites are not connected to one another in any way. They all belong to the same WordPress.com username account, but each site is a completely separate entity, and no change you make on any one site can have an effect on any other site in your account.
