multiple blogs on one site

I just started my wordpress.com site today, so I apologize in advance for not knowing things that everyone else seems to know. But I did try to find it out on my own first… I am trying to set up a website at eight-hundred-words.net. In the end what I’d like for people who go to that url to see is a home page with my most recent posts on it and a navigation menu that links to other pages. So far, so good…easy peasy. But I want one of those navigation links to be a *different* blog. They’d have two separate names and be two separate blogs, but it’s important to me that they are both part of the same site.

As far as I can tell, each new WordPress account comes with one and only one blog, and there’s no way around that. (I’d love to be wrong about that–please let me know!) Then I thought that maybe I could just open up a different wordpress to serve as the second blog, and somehow link it to eight-hundred-words.net. When I tried that, though, it appeared to not be as easy as I might have hoped. I signed up and it was asking me to sign up for a new WordPress account, when what I really wanted to do was to link it to my own previously existing domain name.

Is this something that I will be able to do? If so, how? Thank you very much!

    Hi Mike!

Setting up two completely different blogs on the same site isn’t technically possible, but I have a thought. A workaround might be to use the blog feed with two different Categories, then only show the Category Archive pages instead of an all Posts page. (Broadly) here’s how you could go about that:

Not precisely what, you’re looking for, but it produces a similar effect.

If you do choose to setup a second WordPress.com site, you can do so under the same username:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-new-site to-an-existing-account

You can then add a link to the “other” blog in each site’s navigation menu using Custom Links:

    Menus

This wouldn’t add the 2nd blog’s post to the first site, but it would help your readers reach both.

Let me know if any of this options works, and I’m happy to help you through them. :)

    Best,

    -Alex G.
