Multiple changes to my account

  • Unknown's avatar

For decades in CA, my self-employed business identity was RGH Marketing, hence my account of rghmktg.wordpress.com. When I semi-retired to SC, I took on the identity of Business Guy, hence my domain map of http://businessguy.biz. Now, I’m seeking to return to CA with a final permanent identity as SuperTemp with a domain map of http://supertemp.biz (which I have purchased from Dotster). I would like to end all identity with both rghmktg and businessguy.

I would like to change my username from rghmktg to supertemp. I would like to change my domain map from businessguy.biz to supertemp.biz. And, I would like to upgrade to site redirect.

Q1: In what order should I do these?
Q2: Need I wait any specified time between each step?
Q3: Do I redirect from my basic wordpress.com URL or from businessguy.biz, and do I forward to my new wordpress.com URL or to supertemp.biz?

    Thx.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

Q1: In what order should I do these?

Any order you’d like! If you change the blog URL first, you will have the option to automatically change your username to match it.

Q2: Need I wait any specified time between each step?

    Nope! Change away!

Q3: Do I redirect from my basic wordpress.com URL or from businessguy.biz, and do I forward to my new wordpress.com URL or to supertemp.biz?

If I understand correctly, you’re changing the address of your current WordPress.com site rghmktg.wordpress.com to supertemp.wordpress.com (or something similar). And you’re mapping the new domain supertemp.biz to this site.

If both of these statements are true, you won’t need to redirect anything as long as you continue to pay for the domain businessguy.biz.

Both businessguy.biz and supertemp.biz will be mapped to the same site, and you can choose which one appears in the address bar when a visitor lands on your site.

Does that clarify things? Let me know if I can help further!

Shawna, thanks for the clear answers. One more question, pls: I need to purchase separate domain mapping for supertemp.biz from WordPress, right?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yep! You’ll need separate mapping for your new domain supertemp.biz. You can add that through your dashboard at Store > My Domains. Here’s some more info about adding an existing domain:

Let me know if I can help with anything else! :)

Shawna, got one glitch to overcome. When I went to change my username to SuperTemp, it said it was already taken. I don’t remember taking supertemp.wordpress.com, but if that’s mine,

    1) how do I migrate my existing content onto that page?

    2) If I read it correctly, the supertemp page is related to my rghmktg URL, so what happens if I change the username from rghmktg to supertemp from the supertemp page?

    Hi there!

It looks like there is already an account with the username supertemp and a matching blog supertemp.wordpress.com. If that account belongs to you, you can make changes to it by logging into the corresponding account.

If it doesn’t belong to you, you’ll need to choose another username. Since you’re going to map the domain supertemp.biz to your site, no one will the WordPress.com address of your blog, so you could choose to not even change this!

Let me know if I can help further!

    Shawna,

Didn’t make myself clear. When I go to supertemp.wordpress.com, it logs me in and, in the drop down, has a link to my companion site, rghmktg.wordpress.com.

What I need is to replace the space-saver content in supertemp with my actual content in its entirety from rghmktg. How do I do that, pls?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yep! That’s what happens when you visit a WordPress.com site when you’re logged in. This doesn’t mean that the site is connected to your account, just that its a WordPress.com site.

You can also see this bar when you visit these sites:

    http://snowymcalisterfestival.com/
    http://bettertastebureau.com/
    http://dirtybourbonrivershow.com/

You can see all of the sites on your account in the drop down menu you mentioned and also here:

Does that clarify things? Let me know how I can help further!

OK, I went to your “my blogs” link and it shows only my rghmktg. Is there a way I can request supertemp since it’s sitting dormant? Can you ask in my behalf?

We don’t contact users about their usernames or blog URLs. If there is a contact form or an email address on the site, you’re welcome to contact them yourself!
