Multiple Comics in Panel Theme

The navigation panel that comes with the Panel theme is really great for publishing a webcomic, so thanks for that.

I’d like to publish more than one webcomic series though. So I’ve made a category for the first series, and made this category a menu item.

I’d really love it if the navigation panel then showed up on this menu/category page. This would mean that readers could maneuver through the series – in my case, the Watershed Blues series – using the previous, next, etc. buttons.

Is there any way to do this?

  • Hi @symmetryisoverrated!

The comic navigation on Panel doesn’t have a way to differentiate between one comic/category and another – it loads the next/previous comic, so if you’re publishing two, they’d end up mixed.

One possible solution would be to create a second site for the second comic, then use a Custom Link in the menus of both sites to link back and forth between them.

Hmm, fair enough. I don’t really mind mixing comics together on the homepage; it’s fair enough that the latest update would be there, ordered consecutively with every other comic post, like a blogger who writes in more than one category.

It’s the ability to have a navigation tool on a category page, so that people could read just one series if they wanted. Anyways, I guess that’s not possible now. It’d be a great upgrade though.

As it is, I’m left contemplating taking my site to another host, and trying out the wordpress.org plug-in Webcomic, which is free and does offer that kind of functionality.

In any case, thanks for the quick and definitive answer.

  • My pleasure!

If you do decide to go the self hosted route, this guide may come in handy :)
