Multiple copies of same pic in media file?

    @vanillalounge: Yes I can delete anything in the Library myself. I know this will remove them from posts, but, you see, in most cases that wont matter as I don’t attach them using the Media Embeder. Never have…. Don’t like the way it affects my formatting. I write IMG code for each image as I compose a post. I expect I’ll have to then manually restore all those images to each post myself if this can be done, but that’s do-able once I no longer have the duplicates to wade through…… I’m already going to have to edit all of them to restore Categories and tags anyway.

    What I want to know is whether it’s possible to first empty the Media Library on your end without me having to “Bulk Delete” over 400 pages of Media…. a daunting and time consuming idea… Then…. can ONLY my original Media Library alone be re-imported again from my original Blog….this time of course hopefully without again experiencing the weird duplication that stole all that space by making over 5 times the original files.

    And like jilhenderson… I’d sorta like to know what causes it all in the first place.

    Just an update…

    After another email from support, I did a Bulk Delete of the entire Media Library… a long and tedious process. I might suggest an option be added to to the dashboard to allow such a task without needing to do it 20 files at a time, with the proper warnings to prevent accidents, of course.

    After that, I tried another re-import from my original Blog, which went better… There was still some duplication of files, but not nearly as many (only 1200 doppelgangers this time out or roughly 2x the originals instead of 5x). Also… it did actually attach most, but not all, of the files to the appropriate posts. It’s going to take some work, but I think I might be able to identify the duplicates myself as I edit all my posts to restore missing Categories and tags.

    As requested, I sent along a zip file of my XML import file for the support people to examine. If they figure out what the problem is, I’ll let you know.
