multiple edit boxes

is there a way to have multiple edit boxes for a theme? let me explain the situation.

with the pages on my blog, there’s the sidebar, and then there’s two content areas, a large middle part and a smaller side part.
right now, the two content areas are being distinguished with div tags in the post content. the problem is i need to have users who are not HTML proficient editing content of pages, and using the tinymce editor, they’ve accidentally deleted the div tags without knowing it, messing up how the page is.

my question is, is there some way for there to be two edit boxes (one say for the main area, one for the side area), and have it be easily editable? i can edit themes pretty readily, i’m just trying to figure out if there’s some plugin or advanced theme functionality to do this.

    thanks.
