Multiple Editor Issues
-
Hi,
I have Googled myself silly for hours over this. Any advice is appreciated.
I have copied and pasted plain text from gvim into the Visual editor:
1) When previewing the post, some of the links are bracketed with blank lines (like a paragraph) and others are not. The ones that “are not” are either properly displayed inline or they are properly displayed, with no intervening white space, after a SHIFT+ENTER.
2) The Text editor is not displaying any HTML whatsoever, so I am unable to fix any errant tags.
3) Many Google searches have suggested disabling WYSIWYG via: Dashboard → Users → Your Profile → Uncheck ‘use visual rich editor’ option → Update. However, this option does not appear to exist anywhere on our site and there is no section in My Profile titled “Personal Options” where some sceen shots have shown it.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Don’t copy and paste into the visual editor; that brings junk HTML tags you can neither see nor edit. Delete the post and paste into the TEXT editor and then add formatting and links.
If you want to compose offline including formatting and links, use something that’s web compatible and doesn’t cause these problems, like Windows Live Writer.
Do not use Google searches for instructions on a WP.com blog; it will give you instructions for a different version of the software. Search for help with your version of the software in the Support documents here http://support.wordpress.com/ assuming of course you’re running a WordPress.com blog and not a WordPress.org blog and are in the correct forum.

Thanks for the super fast reply.
I did encounter many warnings about pasting into the editor. My understanding was that gvim was pure plain text (it’s ancient) and I found a forum comment from someone who recommended gvim as an offline editor for WordPress.
Interesting that the formatting issue would be inconsistent on multiple instances of links all pasted from the same source.
Yes, we are running a WordPress.com site. I forgot to mention that. Thanks for the link.
Regards.
