Multiple Galleries on a “Page”

Hi everyone, I know, I know, another gallery question. You’re sick on them but maybe you can help me. What I am trying to do is set up a travel blog with a page of posts updating my family on my progress and a Gallery page where they can see all my beautiful pictures. Now, the problem is I believe you can only have a single “posts” page and all additional pages have to be static “Pages” (correct me if I am wrong, that would fix my problem). I want to be able to have multiple galleries for the different cities or places I visit but at the moment, when I try to add photos to a page, they get lumped into a single gallery and I can’t figure out how to creat multiple galleries for them (i.e. under different headings etc) and if that is even possible. I have read the unofficial Gallery FAQA which discusses this for “Post” pages but it does not seem to apply for “Page” pages. Is there a way to do this? And indeed can I have multiple “Post” pages (wrong place for the question I know)… :)

    Thanks guys,
    Angela

You just create different Posts for each group of photos: Tuesday in Brazilia, Thursday in Copenhagen, for example. Then each picture you upload associated with a particular post goes in the gallery. And it keeps different galleries separate.

Is that what you were looking for? Don’t forget to use Categories and Tags on your posts so people can find them easily.

Hi raincoaster, thanks for your reply. I was wanting to keep all the photos out of the “posts” page and have a separate “gallery” page with them all under different headings (i.e. Brazilia, Copenhagen etc). I tried to follow the instructions on other forum pages about creating individual hidden child pages and linking them all together on a “multiple gallery” static page, but when I publish the page and go back to view the page, all I see is the [ galleryID =”103″ ] not the gallery. In the “edit page” page for the gallery page (if that makes sense) it shows the big box that comes up when you add a gallery in both places I have tried to add separate galleries (i.e. not the [ galleryID =”103″ ] tag) but it disappears after publishing.

    My site is:

    http://ilovevolcanoes.wordpress.com

but it is in the absolute beginning stages. :) With only test posts and pages so might not be a lot of help.

I thought I had used tags and catergories! Whoops! Sorry, I am new to this…. :)

Sorry, I just got what you said about tags and catergories. Very helpful…. But which is better a tag or catergory, from a searching point of view they seem to be the same so what is the real difference… :)

Tags and Categories are equal in terms of searching. This also explains the difference. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories-vs-tags/

Not sure if this helps, but did you check at the very bottom of that non-official Gallery FAQ and the Galleries page linked there?

Awesome, perfect. Just what I need. I tried searching for that exact phrase in the support section but could not find this help page…. Must be doing something wrong as I am not finding the “support” section very supportive. Thanks again justjennifer!

Welcome. I assume we’re talking tags/categories? :) Just be aware that there seems to be some contradictory info about the number of tags you can use:

On this page http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/ it says a combined use of 10 categories and tags.

On this page http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories-vs-tags/ seems to say you can use an unlimited number of tags.

Err on the side of caution.

About the Gallery thing, on second look I noticed that you need to correct your Gallery code to include a space between the word “gallery” and “id”.

Perfect! You’re an angel. Thank you for this, you are doing an awesome job and us noobs really do appreciate it! :) Even if they don’t always say it! :)

    re re number of tags:
Support says the following, but in context of an entire blog, not per post:

Is there a limit to the number of tags I can have?
Yes, the sky. In other words, no.

    Categories vs. Tags
