Multiple H1 Tags
-
Hi,
In bing webmaster it says that I have multiple H1 tags on various pages, heres one for info: http://jamescollettphotography.wordpress.com/2013/10/24/american-monument-mull-of-oa-islay/
webmaster recommends the following: There are multiple <h1> tags on the page.
<h1 class=”entry-title”>American Monument, Mull of Oa, Islay</h1>
Recommended Action:
Remove redundant <h1> tags from the page source, so that only one <h1> tag exists.Any ideas?
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

<h1 class=”post-title”>The Red Lion Horsell</h1>
Recommended Action:
Remove redundant <h1> tags from the page source, so that only one <h1> tag exists.Googling hasn’t got me anywhere, have you figured it out yet?

Hi lunchingmarie,
I think it is all down to the design of the template. Seeing as I have failed to get an answer I have resolved to teaching myself some html coding, I’m currently on the free package so I cannot edit my H1 tags to change them, but may do in the future if it bothers me that much. Basically if you are on the basic wordpress.com blog you won’t be able to change the H1 tags unless you buy the upgrade, or you could simply change your layout to one that has structured the tags appropriately.

We bloggers cannot edit WordPress.com theme templates – period – with or without a custom design upgrade. This is a multiuser blogging platform and that means all blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template. Only Staff can access and edit templates because every edit affects all blogs wearing the same theme.
Does the Custom Design upgrade let me edit HTML?
No. The Custom Design upgrade allows you to edit fonts, colors, and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup or PHP code. … http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questionsDoes this help you?

As the previous user mentioned, the only way to customize the html / css code is to upgrade your package type with WordPress. Unfortunately the free version does not allow you to customize any of the code.
Additional information regarding the different packages can be found on the following link:

@timethief I thought the package also allowed to edit html?
Learned something new!@jcollettphotography disregard my post.

@kharwinder09
No it does not and cannot allow us that access because our blogs are not free standing like WordPress.org installs are. Our WordPress.com blogs share a common architecture. And, after 8 years of answering questions here I continue to be amazed by how many people purchase the custom design upgrade without reading the Custom Design FAQs section first. -
I get the same error when I run my blog through site analysis, and it’s bizarre. WHY would there be too many H1 tags: there is only one headline per blog post. I can’t see what difference it makes to Google or Bing, but apparently it does and I’d like to know why and why there are “too many” on our blogs.

Hi all,
Some themes use the h1 tag in multiple places in the theme, for example around the site title as well as the entry title. That’s why you may have multiple h1 tags on a single page. If you’re concerned about that, I’d recommend watching the YouTube video that timethief linked to. :)
