Multiple languages
-
I want to publish my blog in two languages: English and Spanish. I read the entries on the forum, which mentioned using categories or two linked blogs to do this. However, I have a premium package. If I would want to link an identical blog in Spanish, would I have to purchase another package for the secondary blog? What is the best way to publish duplicate blogs/posts in two languages?
Thanks,

You can set only one interface language in any blog here > Settings > General
However, you can write a blog post in the two languages and then post the two versions of the entry on the same blog, make each language category (English, Spanish) , create a custom menu and add the categories pages to it.

Thanks for your help. I had read your solution in another post, and it’s what I’m using for now. It seems to be the best fix until multi-languages becomes a WordPress option.

I saw one blog user has a drop down menu where you can select which language you want to read the blog. I would like this feature on my blog, but I do not see it as a widget, nor do I see it as an upgrade that I can purchase. Can someone help me?

You can create a custom menu and do the same thing I did on a single page on each an every individual page for each and every individual language and make each one of the pages sub-page in a custom menu. Then they will display as dropdowns.
Frankly I like the one page approach much better http://thistimethisspace.com/translation/
create a custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
create pages and sub-pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
add pages to custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-pages
add sub-pages to custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#changing-the-order-of-menu-items-and-creating-sub-menusThere are many common errors, misunderstandings and misconceptions when creating custom menus and you can read about them here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

Thank you timethief, but I am not understanding what you posted. I do not want to create another whole page just with all the languages on it – it looked like on this wordpress page (see here: http://ilawyerblog.com/) it says “select a language” – I want to achieve the same result – a simple drop down menu. Is this possible?

That’s not a free hosted WordPress.com blog that you linked to. We cannot do that on a free hosted WordPress.com blog. That’s why I posted the workarounds above.
