Multiple languates

I have a site in two languages: I post in dutch and englisch. When I have my site language in dutch, my posts don’t appear in explore (in the englisch version). When I set the language of the website in englisch, my dutch posts don’t appear in the dutch explore. Is there a way to get my posts in the dutch and englisch explore?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Your posts will appear in the Reader for the language you set for the blog, under Settings > General in your dashboard. If you’d like your English posts to appear in the English section of the Reader and the Dutch posts in the Dutch section, you’ll need to set up separate blogs for each language.

We have some tips for how you can set that up (and link the blogs together) here: Set Up a Multilingual Blog

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

    Thank you Rachel,

I like the third option in the link: setting up two blogs with the same theme.

My name is now: andre1980scholten.wordpress.com. Is it possible, that I create a domain: andre1980scholten.com for the Englisch part and andre1980scholten.nl for the dutch part?

    Hi there,

You are welcome to set up custom domains, but for that option to work you will also need to set up two completely separate blogs (one for each domain/language). For example, you can have andre1980scholten.wordpress.com with the domain andre1980scholten.com for the English part, and another blog like andre1980scholten-nl.wordpress.com with the domain andre1980scholten.nl for the Dutch part.

You can read more about how custom domains work at WordPress.com here: All About Domains

Please let me know if I can provide any further help with this. :)

Re: bilingual blogging and/or mutlilingual blogging

If you are bilingual or multilingual and want to publish your free hosted WordPress.com in two or more languages but do not want to rely on machine translation that can be done. You can have two or more blogs in different languages and interlink them via categories and custom menus. There’s also a workaround for publishing posts in two or more languages in the same blog. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/02/25/wordpress-com-multilingual-blogs/

Thank you so much. You people have really helped me! One last queston: I have bought a custom domain: can I use it on both blogs?

  • Unknown's avatar

No a custom domain can be used on a single blog only. A domain mapping upgrade is $18. per year and is for single blog and for a single year only, when it is due for renewal.

Here’s how to proceed. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase.

If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.

See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

See here for mapping a sub-domain (for a domain with an existing website) to your WordPress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/

Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
