Multiple people, one blog

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I am trying to set up a blog for me, my brother and my sister to all use together.
I would like to have a page per person and then a homepage which shows the latest blog post, from either of us three.

Is this possible and how can I do it. I have been playing around with settings but cannot post to any page other than the homepage.

    Thanks

    Jonny

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Jonny

So if I understand you want 3 pages, one for yourself, on for your brother and one for your sister, each showing only the post written by the specific person?
And you also want a homepage showing the latest posts (no matter who wrote it)?

First, log in to your WordPress.com account, go to your website and click on the “customize” button in the bottom right of your screen. Go to “homepage settings” and select “your latest posts”.
Your home page is now set to display the latest posts.

You can now create the 3 pages where you want to display the posts
    For example :
    Page A for you
    Page B for your brother
and Page C for your sister

To display only specific posts on a page, we will need to add categories to each post.
You can find how to create and add categories to your post by reading this support document:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/

If you write a post, you add your own category to the post, and if your brother writes a post, he adds his own category to the post then each of you will have his own category.
For example, your category can be “category A”, your brothers “category B” and your sister “category C”

The last step is to display the posts on the specific page.
In order to do it, we will use shortcodes.
You can find more information about shortcodes on this support document: https://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/

So for example on your page, (Page A) you will write the code
    [display-posts category="category A"]
This will display only the posts with the category A on page A.
Same for page B and C.

I hope this is not too confusing and that it will help you set your website the way you want.

    :)

  • Hello,

    @floflo56
, That’s a great solution that you provided.
But in regard to this I would like to add a few more points which @divineersatz can try.

Instead of categories, you can have user roles (author or editor, for example) added for your brother and sister(considering you are the admin) too.

For more info on user roles, click here.

For adding a user role, you can check the link below:
    Adding Users

It has a nice explanation with all screenshots on how to add users.

    Once you have done that,
you can use shortcodes. But now you can differentiate on the basis of the user role for your page.
    For example,
For Page A, you can add
    [display-posts author="bill"]
    or
you can also add user role and category as well. For example,
    [display-posts author="bill" category="category A"]

You can check more about it here.

Let us know if this works for you or if you have any questions.

    Thanks
