multiple permissions?
-
Hi I’m a high school teacher who wants to build a new school website with my two media classes, about 60 students. Is it possible with WordPress to create a website where certain students only have access to certain areas? For example, only the ‘sports page’ students can edit the Sports page, and not the Clubs page? I’m trying to avoid a situation where a few students could erase the work of other students. Thank you in advance for any guidance!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there,
You can add multiple users to a particular website and assign them one of several available roles with varying permissions as outlined here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/.
It sounds like your best bet for achieving what you are looking to would be assigning multiple users as Authors to their specific area of authority.
Let me know if you have any other questions or need any further clarification,
Cheers

Thank you for your quick response. I was skeptical of the “user-roles” link you mentioned because SquareSpace also lists those roles for their site and an admin there stated “Anyone with permissions can edit all of those blog pages.” I guess WordPress is different! Do all plans, including free, offer this permissions functionality?

Hi there,
Squarespace and WordPress.com are two separate companies, so yes, they’re probably different. Being an administrator for any WordPress.com site still lets you edit all content, so applying the author role might be best for you.
I do just want to add this will create a scenario where students can’t create pages, but they can create and edit their own posts. This shouldn’t be an issue though.
Also, all WordPress.com sites (including those with the Free Plan) have the ability to modify user roles.
Let us know if you have any further questions or issues. :)
