Multiple Pictures in a Post

    I’ve seen other topics on this but it hasn’t been answered well. I often post multiple medium & large size pictures to my blog at a time. I don’t like the “gallery” feature because the thumbs are too small and therefore requires people to click on them.

    Is there a way to allow for “insert into post” of pictures with multiple at a time? If not, can it be added a feature request for the future?

    p.s. I’m aware that you can set the default for a thumb to be bigger, but all that does is cause the pictures to overlap in a horizontal row in gallery view.

    I know what you mean and Support has acknowledged a suggestion I made a few months ago. Some of my posts I easily inserted over a dozen 470px wide images (defaults to full size in Dashboard setting). I feel “Gallery” confuses people and cumbersome for viewers who aren’t on fast internet having to load screen after screen. “Gallery” should really be a slideshow feature that keeps the images and viewers on the same screen.

    That aside, all photos are resized manually in my photo editor before they’re batch uploaded. Second step, go to Media Library where all the newly uploaded photos are and then insert them one by one (this part is the painful bit :P) The suggestion I had was to have a checkbox against each image in Media Library that we can select and then they get inserted into the blog post in one step!

    Also it would be also be convenient to have a Media Library button on the POST bar instead of accessing it via “Add an image”

    I agree that the painfull part is inserting them one-by-one. And I agree that your suggestion of a checkbox multi-select would ease this pain.

    @douglasfamily:

    Your complain about the gallery feature is not valid. The overlapping you mention takes place because the default setting for a gallery is three images in a row, but you can change that – e.g. you can write [gallery size="medium" columns="2"].

    That apart, for a less “painful” way to upload non-gallery images see my reply here:

    (Note: that reply was for file links, but it applies to images as well: just drag the thumbnails, not their titles.)

    panaghiotisadam,

    Thanks for the tip. Not sure how I could have missed that considering the number of images I move all the time. Can’t wait to see what changes the new Dashboard brings too.

    panaghiotisadam:

    Thanks for your tip about the gallery. Doing this: [gallery size="medium" columns="1"] gets the result I’m looking for.

    I still think that they should add a feature to expose this through the UI when inserting a gallery and/or multiple pictures. Doing this would help others in the future.

    @shimworld & douglasfamily: You’re welcome.

    douglasfamily, I agree; I’m no fan of how the gallery works.

    And here’s an excellent post on galleries, by our justjennifer:

    Thanks for again mentioning my FAQ, panaghiotisadam (FWIW a little birdie mentioned to me -without giving details- that there’s changes a’comin’ to the Gallery feature with the release of 2.7.)

    I agree Gallery can be a pain. WordPress.COM users are inventive people and I think there have been a lot of things tried with Gallery that maybe weren’t originally intended, so many people end up frustrated at the results they get or don’t get. The model example is Matt Mullenweg’s Galleries on his blog.

    And since WP.COM finally posted a screencast FAQ on Gallery, it would have been helpful if they’d have included a link to the WordPress.ORG Codex explaining some of the more advanced features. http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_the_gallery_shortcode

    Who knows where 2.7 is going to take this…

    I just spent lot of time defining Next and Back links in the gallery (links manually defined in html).

    I wish the navigation of photographs were automatic. I know some of the themes have navigation but Regulus theme does not.
