Multiple upgrades confliction with each other

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I had temporarily moved a blog off of wordpress.com (to a wordpress.org blog for added functionality), and choosen for a redirect, the blog is moving back to wordpress.com again. However I had purchased a domain redirect, and now have purchased a premium upgrade which includes domain mapping.

The domain mapping doesn’t show, but the old redirect (which expirers sooner) is still there.

I’m experiencing problems with routing to a subdomain hosted elsewhere as well, and wondering if this could be the cause of it.

    Can someone please help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

From what I’ve found the redirect needs to be deleted by a engineer.

It’s not something a customer can do.

It would be really nice to be able to do some of this stuff yourself. If that is not possible a warning message that if you have site redirect, that is not compatible with custom domain, and that it can cause issue, and contact someone beforehand, so the site isn’t down.

Because now I can’t change the DNS settings (for the subdomain), and am dependent on when somebody reads this, and has time to fix it.

I’m just wondering if I should open a seperate support request for deleting the redirect, as it says quite specifically in the documentation that is the case?

But, then if the redirect is removed, then if the DNS starts working normally, should be able to set subdomain, which would solve the issue. That’s the theory anyway.

I kept in mind that there could be some problems with the transfer. Having said that, I hope this can be avoided in the future. It seems to be more a bug than anything else at the moment.

Well, let’s start with identifying which blog you are talking about. What is the URL, what is the subdomain, etc etc. We need specifics. We need the underlying whatever.wordpress.com URL starting with http.

    Blog adres:
    http://ecodelphinus.wordpress.com

    Domain which blog falls under:
    http://ecodelphinus.com

Subdomain (with seperate .org WordPress install):
    http://fashion.ecodelphinus.com

blog needs to fall under domain.
subdomain .org install is manually linked to in menu of blog and vice versa, and has same theme for seemless blend.

This worked before, by setting the DNS at the registrar to the WordPress DNS. Then, in the .com backend add the subdomain to point at the external host.

The problem is I don’t get set a DNS option anymore. I don’t know why.

Please let me know if you need any additional information that may be of assistance in solving this issue.

    A. Relevant documentation:

    ‘Site Redirect’:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/

    ‘Custom DNS’:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/custom-dns/

    ‘Map an Existing Domain’:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

    Errors I’m running into:

    1. There is no option to change DNS as described in the documentation.
    2. ‘Map a domain name you already own’ button.

Then I get the following error message if I enter ecodelphinus.com:
‘The domain name you entered is already mapped to a WordPress.com blog.’

What I’m seeing in the ‘My Domain’ screen:

    1. ecodelphinus.com (Site Redirect) (Primary Domain)
    2. ecodelphinus.wordpress.com

This was resolved by a happiness engineer through a support ticket.

Thank you for thinking along raincoaster. It was good to see you in the forums again.

    Marking as resolved.
