Multiuser community WordPress site

    Hello,

I’m interested in setting up a WordPress site for our community committee. We would like each member to be able to login and create their own profile.

Secondly, each member should be able to create markers on a map (e.g. Google maps) and these should be visible to all on our homepage.

Does something like this already exist?
Are there plugins that can do this?
What’s the easiest way to achieve this – any examples or advice appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, have a look at the theme showcase and keep an eye open for themes that show author links for each post and have nice-looking author archive pages. You can search the theme descriptions by typing something like this into the Google search bar:

    site:http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/ "author * * * * pages"

Then make sure your authors have set up their profiles/gravatars so these pages have up to date information on them.

You might also consider using the author grid widget or authors widget in one of your widget areas to really show off.

As for the map, your best option is to create a public google map and drop in pins for all your author’s destinations and then follow these instructions to embed it into either a static home page, or a text widget on your sidebar.

We can’t use plugins here are WordPress.com (it’s different for self-hosted WordPress.org sites).

Good luck, have a read of all those support pages and if you get stuck feel free to post back with your progress and which stage is proving tricky!
