Music autoplaying in Reader
-
Hi, all of a sudden when I open Reader to read posts I follow, some awful music is starting up and playing through my computer speakers. Yes, I could turn the speakers off, but its incredibly off-putting knowing that I don’t have any control over that happening. What if I want to listen to something else while reading? I’ve read some help forums on this & one identified that a post in someone’s Reader had a soundcloud song set to autoplay, so the answer was to unsubscribe to that post, but how do I work out which blog is the culprit – do I have to open and check every post?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
According to WordPress.com staff, the autoplay feature for Soundcloud has been disabled in the Reader: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/unwanted-music?replies=8I’ve tagged this thread for staff’s attention.

Hello, thank you for your reply. Yes, I saw a forum conversation that suggested that too. Maybe it’s not Soundcloud, but something is definitely auto-playing when I scroll through Reader. I only mentioned Soundcloud because I’d seen that mentioned in other posts about the same problem. I’ve just checked it again now & it’s still happening. Basically if I start to scroll, and scroll through for a few seconds, or to posts from a few days ago, a little speaker comes up in the WordPress tab at the top of the page, and music starts playing. Music I wouldn’t choose to listen to, I might add!
Any help would be appreciated!

Hey there,
I was checking out your Reader and couldn’t find the post that was auto-playing music.
Can you point me to the post? I would love to report this and see if we can get this resolved for you.
Thanks!

Hello, well partly what I was asking for help with, was how to locate the post – other than opening and reading every post! However I’ve found it today, it’s this one: http://thesongiliveby.com/2015/09/23/i-sailed-the-northwest-passage/#like-1812
– which has some kind of audio file in it that auto-plays as soon as I open my Reader. In fact, if I go to that post via the Reader, I still can’t make the music stop playing, even when I click on the “stop/play” button it keeps playing. However if I go directly to her blog, not via the Reader, I can turn it off. (It auto-plays as soon as the blog is open)
I don’t want to spoil anything for the writer of that post as she seems lovely but you might still be interested to know that was happening if WordPress prefer not to have files auto-playing. I have no idea what kind of audio file that is.

Hi there,
Sorry about that! The issue I was having was that I did not hear the audio at all while scrolling through your Reader, so I couldn’t locate the source .
I checked the post and saw that the user deleted the song already. I wanted to see what they were using to play music because we have disabled certain music players in Reader in the past (e.g, Soundcloud players) and would love to look into what caused theirs to play.
Please let me know if you have any other issues or encounter a song in the Reader in the future and I’d be happy to look into it for you.
Thanks!
