Music won’t upload?

  I don’t really need to upload anything but I tried to upload some music using the audio uploader that you see when you post a new post. I tried a valid song (I put on my computer with the actual cd). As far as I can tell it’s .mp3 but it said invalid after I pressed download. Then I noticed that .mp3 isn’t listed as a file you can upload, but everything I’ve read says otherwise.
  Help?
