MX email Google v 1and1 (host)

  • Unknown's avatar

I am having real problems with setting up an email account for my blog. Google is not verifying me as the owner of my domain (I suspect because it is currently ‘straddled’ between wordpress and 1and1), so I don’t know how to progress with that. I have therefore contacted them to cancel that email account. In the meantime I am trying to set up an account with 1and1 who are hosting my wordpress blog (although I’m having big problems with the transfer of that too…). 1and1 have said that my email account with them will only work if I enter the following MX records:
    1and1 mx records priority
    mx00.1and1.com 10
    mx01.1and1.com 20
I have tried to do this on the settings>domains page of my blog but it is not working as this format is not compatible with the standard example (which only allows one MX record) and I get the error message that I can only make these changes if my name server is pointing to wordpress. However, my name server has to point to 1and1 as they will be hosting my blog. Meanwhile, the google MX DNS is still in the field, as that is what I originally saved, so I don’t know how to move forward here! I’m in a mess…

    Please help!

This thread has been flagged for Staff attention.

  • Those MX records aren’t entirely structured correctly, they’re missing priority numbers.

    See http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-dns/ for more details.
