MX Records
-
I started a website in WordPress the other day and brought my domain name over from GoDaddy. I’m trying to find out why I can’t add the MX records so that I can receive email through my website. It says to go to My Domains, then click on the Edit button, but the Edit button is greyed out and so I can’t access anything to make the changes. Can anyone help?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry for the trouble!
Would you please try again now following this guide?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/add-godaddy-email/

Thanks for replying. I’ve gone to the guide but the problem is that the first Edit button is greyed out and so it won’t let me edit the MX records. I’m not sure why the first button is greyed out. I have maxinesullivan.com as my primary domain, so it should allow me to use the Edit button next to it. Help!

Hm, it seems clickable for me. There is no change if you click it?
If not, first please make sure that your browser is up to date by visiting http://whatbrowser.org/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these four things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

Thanks again for your reply. And no, there is no change when I click on Edit in My Domains. It’s still grey.
I checked the browser and I’m using IE11.
I’ve cleared the cache and cookies.
I now have third-party cookies enabled.
I’ve temporarily disabled add-ons.
Have enabled HTTPS.
I restarted the computer and the edit button is still grey, unfortunately.
Perhaps I should go back and make the Default blog address of maxinesullivan1.wordpress.com as the primary domain and see if the Edit button is greyed out or not? If I can click on the edit button there, I’ll add the MX details, save it, then reconnect it to maxinesullivan.com and make that the primary domain. How does that sound? It will mean temporarily disconnecting my website of maxinesullivan.com. Would that be a problem? I’m loathe to touch anything at this stage. :) -
Would you mind trying in a different browser, like Firefox or Chrome?
-
Hi. I tried it in both Google Chrome and Firefox and still no change with the Edit button. I think I will have to disconnect my website as I mentioned in previous post. If that doesn’t work I will probably get GoDaddy to manage my WordPress site and hopefully they can fix the problem. I do appreciate your help. Thanks.

I just unconnected the primary domain and connected it back to the default blog, but there was no edit button. So I’ve reconnected it and that button is still greyed out. Will just have to plod along and find the problem but am not sure where to look now. Perhaps I’ll have to eventually create a new website in GoDaddy and keep everything there. At least they have a phone number I can call and talk it through with a technician.
Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. -
Hm, that is very odd. I am having absolutely no trouble on this end.
Are you absolutely sure that you tried with all browser extensions temporarily disabled?
-
Hi again. I originally went into Tools, Toolbars, Disable Add-Ons and clicked delete. I now see there is a button under it called Manage Add-ons. When I clicked on that it took me to the page that shows there are quite a few add-ons enabled, eg. Adobe, Apple ITunes, Arcade and some under Google Update Plugins. Do I turn all of the enable ones to disable? I’m loathe to touch any of them unless you tell me it’s ok.

I’ve disabled all of them and the edit button is still greyed out. Not sure what else to try. Is it possible for me to send you the codes via email and you change them for me? That can be a temporary measure until I can figure this out for future reference. I have a book coming out next week and I’d really like to have my website email up and running, rather than me having to constantly check via GoDaddy webmail. I appreciate your help. Thanks. Maxine

Ok, I’m sorry about that, I really can’t reproduce the problem under your account in Chrome and Firefox.
Which records did you need us to add for you?
-
I have the MX Records of Host and IP Address details but am not sure I should add them here. Eg:
mailstore1.secureserver.net and then the IP address. smtp.secureserver.net and then the IP address. Are they personal to my account or are they general GoDaddy details? I’m not sure. I got them from my account page in GoDaddy. If they are general ones, I will post them here. If they are personal, can you email me at (email visible only to moderators and staff) and I will reply to you through GoDaddy webmail.
Thanks so much.
-
They should be general, but just in case, I have sent a separate email to the address on your WordPress.com account.
-
Thanks very much. I’ve replied to your message through my GoDaddy webmail. Let me know if it doesn’t come through. Thanks.
-
Thanks, mail received! I’m not the best DNS expert in the world, so my colleague who is will be replying to your email as soon as he can. :)

I still haven’t had heard from anyone else about this. Would love to get it sorted sooner rather than later. Thanks.

Sorry for the trouble, most of us are traveling today, but I will make sure that you get a reply tomorrow.
At the moment, it looks like you may have not sent us the complete MX records.
I recommend taking a look at http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/add-godaddy-email/ one more time, and just making sure that what you sent is everything we need according to that guide. If you left anything out, please feel free to reply to the same email with further information.
