mx records / email problem
-
Hi,
Having mapped my website yesterday, I contacted Fasthosts.co.uk to help set up MX records to ensure my emails still come through to (email visible only to moderators and staff) or (email visible only to moderators and staff)
Unhappily I have not been receiving emails for about 18 hours now. As a winter holiday business this is very concerning, am worried that we are losing potential clients.
Is there anything you can do to help from your side?
I am currently in contact with Fasthosts support. Many thanks

Fasthosts should be able to provide you with the MX, A, and/or CNAME records you’d need to add on our side. Once you have them, you can add them here by following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/custom-dns/
Please let me know how it goes with Fasthosts. If you’re still having trouble, there are other options for email hosting:

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your help. I required technical feedback as Fasthosts have assured me that the data I am entering is correct.
But, my problem still exists and I am STILL not getting email.
I was told yesterday by Fasthost support that it will take 24 hours for the MX record to propagate. So it was not yet 24 hours since I last updated the record. It is now about 44 hours since I updated. I can check the MX record via the website mxtoolbox.com and you can see that it ‘does not exist’. Fasthosts instructions are to leave the host record blank, but this is invalid for WordPress.
Previously I was instructed by Fasthosts: Please edit your MX records Host field, and replace it with mail.chaletlaluge.com. Please make sure that the Handled By field is still pointed to smtp-in-114.livemail.co.uk, and Priority is set to 0. At the time I was given this instruction I was unaware that it would take 24 hours for this to propagate, and as my test emails were not coming through, I got on to their support again and kept trying different settings. As it seems I have nothing to lose at this point, I am now going to set up the MX record like this. I have not had any technical feedback from WordPress as to whether this should be correct…that is really what I need to know.
This is causing quite a bit of stress as it my and my husband’s business and clients normally will only contact us by email, and failure messages take at least 24 hours to come through.
Any help would be gratefully received
Thanks

Hi
I am still not able to get emails.
I cannot forward emails as they are not reaching Fasthosts in the first place.
Can you verify that the information I have entered is in the correct format?
Do I need to change the CNAME record, as I see you have to do for zoho mail?
Are there other users on WordPress using Fasthosts as their email provider? Can you search records perhaps?
I’m really getting desperate now.
ThanksMini

I’ve updated your DNS using the records provided here:
https://help.fasthosts.co.uk/app/answers/detail/a_id/10/~/pointing-your-domain-name-towards-fasthostsI can’t be sure they’re 100% accurate, but they are what FastHosts provides.
If it’s still not working within 24 hours, you should try using Google Apps, or Zoho, as I mention.

I was on support chat with Carina earlier today. What she changed on the back end made my emails come through.
What now needs resolving is the settings so that I can access my emails through Outlook and on our iPhones
I hope the changes you have made will not cause any further disruption?
Thanks.

All seems to be OK now, with emails coming through on all formats.
Thanks for your help.
