MX-records for an unsupported email provider

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi! After I switched to my own domain with custom DNS my email stopped working. My email/domain provider said, that I have to change the current mx records (wich still point to their server) to the wordpress.com mx. how can i find them and change them?

    Hi there!

You can find your DNS records through your dashboard at Store > My Domains. Select Edit Domain and then Edit DNS.

It looks like your current MX records are pointing to udag.de.

Are you trying to update your records to continue using that email host? Or do you want to use WordPress.com’s email forwarding service?

I’m not entirely sure what I want, but the result should be, that my email works, but doesn’t use the udag.de servers. The guy from my host said that for this I need the mx records of the wordpress servers.

    Hi!
I just deleted the mx records of the host and can now at least set up a few addresses that forward to my regular one, which for now is enough.
The ideal solution would be, that I have a few “real” email accounts from which i could send email too. Is that possible?

    Hi there!

It’s definitely possible, We don’t provide email hosting on WordPress.com, but you can setup a hosting account with another service such as Zoho mail or Google Apps.

We have more information on email hosting here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/

Let me know if I can answer any questions about that!

Hi! Thanks for the help, now I got it! I just had assumed that my domain registrar would also host my mail, which it doesn’t. I’m now using Zoho and I think it works now!
