MX records not propagating

  • Unknown's avatar

Our MX records aren’t propagating. We don’t get any email.

We use Rackspace for email and were told to put in
    mx1.emailsrvr.com &
mx2.emailsrvr.com for the mx records and
secure.emailsrvr.com for the “Mail handled by”

Not working. Anyone know why? Thanks.

    Hi derrylrice,

I just looked at your domain’s DNS records and it appears that the MX records are missing:
    http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools#dnsReport|type=domain&&value=icarusrising.com

Could you please check your Custom DNS settings again to see if your MX records are entered properly?

My MX records are definitely there and are put in as directed. For some reason they just are being seen by the internet.

Isn’t there someone to contact when things go wrong that are out of our control? Thanks!

I’ve tagged this topic for a Staff follow-up. They should be able to take a look at your domain’s settings for you and see if anything wasn’t set properly!

Usually MX records will look more like this:

    mail.icarusrising.com handled by mx1.emailsrvr.com. with priority 10

I need to know the subdomain that Rackspace expects you to use (mail or webmail are common). And also if there’s a CNAME record to go along with this.

Can you copy and paste the entirety of the DNS records you’re supposed to set up?

This is what is now for the last few hours:

    A icarusrising.com handled by WordPress.com
    NS icarusrising.com handled by WordPress.com
    CNAME *.icarusrising.com handled by WordPress.com
MX secure.emailsrvr.com.icarusrising.com mail handled by mx1.emailsrvr.com. with priority 10
MX secure.emailsrvr.com.icarusrising.com mail handled by mx2.emailsrvr.com. with priority 20

For the 3 days preceding it, it was:

    NS icarusrising.com handled by WordPress.com
    CNAME *.icarusrising.com handled by WordPress.com
MX mx1.emailsrvr.com mail handled by secure.emailsrvr.com.icarusrising.com. with priority 10
MX mx2.emailsrvr.com mail handled by secure.emailsrvr.com.icarusrising.com. with priority 20

I have double-checked with Rackspace.com they confirm that the settings were as they should be. Workpress just isn’t showing it correctly and there is nothing anyone can do except WP to correct the problem.

Can you tell the MX records that Rackspace gave you to set up so I can check that they’re formatted correctly in our system?

  • Unknown's avatar

    They are:
    mx1.emailsrvr.com priority 10
    mx2.emailsrvr.com priority 20

secure.emailsrvr.com for the “Mail handled by”

Those aren’t correctly formatted MX records. However, I found this support doc over on Rackspace.com:

    http://www.rackspace.com/knowledge_center/article/dns-records-for-email-with-rackspace

If your email doesn’t start working shortly, please contact Rackspace and ask them if the information in that document is correct.

It’s working! Thank you Shawna! And thanks especially for sending that link, hopefully that will help others in the future.

Fabulous! I’m so glad your email is working. I know how important that is. :)

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with.
