MX Records yeeshh no email

  • Unknown's avatar

I get the following from my email host as instructions and of course they expect me to know what to do next. I have no clue. I messed it up because I am not getting any email. I want to configure the MX record to go to gamersnews.com mail.gamersnews.com

    1. Choose two (more, if you would like more redundancy) of the following IP Addresses:
    65.254.254.50
    65.254.254.51
    65.254.254.52
    65.254.254.53
    65.254.254.54
    65.254.254.55
    65.254.254.56
    65.254.254.57
    65.254.254.58
    2. Create two custom DNS records as follows:
mx.yourdomain.com points to 65.254.254.53 (or any other of the IPs available above)
mx.yourdomain.com points to 65.254.254.56 (or any other of the IPs available above)
    3. Then, set the MX priorities as follows:
    MX1 priority 10 points to mx.yourdomain.com
    MX2 priority 20 points to mx.yourdomain.com

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are you following the instructions here?

It looks like @drreaper is using their old host (or an email host) for email, the records look about the same as I did to keep my email with my old host. Did the email work before the Domain mapping?

    A mail 255.255.255.255
    MX 10 mail.my-domain.com.

Yeah it worked fine before I mapped the domain. I have an open ticket for help. I don’t know how long that takes.

It took the DNS record but my mail isn’t coming through still. I did a DNS lookup and it looks like it went through also.

The records match the same format for my site: http://www.whatsmydns.net/#MX/gamersnews.com

However you might also review the TOS – you are fine now but you have a reference to future advertising.

Yeah if I get an advertiser I will move everything to a real server. Free is good to get started but I will need a server soon enough. I suppose WordPress may do a 50/50 with me also in the mean time. I doubt WordPress is opposed to making a couple of extra bucks.
I already built my own server. Then I found out my ISP wants $149.00 a month to let me have a dedicated IP address. One or two advertiser would allow me to go live with it.

I switched it to the following maybe that will work.

    MX 10 mx.gamersnews.com.
    A mail 65.254.254.50
    A mail 65.254.254.51
    A mail 65.254.254.52
    A mail 65.254.254.53

    http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ipall/?tool_id=67&token=&toolhandler_redirect=0&ip=65.254.254.50

Shows a mapping to mail.yourhostingaccount.com. not gamersnews.com. My mapping goes to my base web URL.

I am thinking that maybe there is a spelling problem: You might want to go back to your mail host and ask them about the actual record or try what I have below.

    MX 10 mail.gamersnews.com.

When I moved I found some different short hand between my old host and WordPress.COM

It looks like my webmail is working now. Not sure why I cannot check email using a regular email program like outlook or thunderbird.

When I changed my MX records it also changed my mail servers. Example my old mail server was mail.gamersnews.com but it changed when I used the MX records. I would post the new one but I won’t for security’s sake. Anyway keep it in mind that you make have to get a hold of your host to get the new mail server settings.
