My account is pointing to the wrong website

  • Unknown's avatar

A couple of days ago, I hired someone to upgrade my website’s version of Thesis.

Now that he’s finished, my wordpress.com “My Stats” page shows my website as *his* test site. It SHOULD say victoriabrouhard.com/blog, but instead it says devvictoria.dev.

Does anybody have an idea for how I can get this fixed? The web ninja I hired is stumped (he’s already looked at my wordpress.com account and so have I and neither of us could find a way to fix this).

When I look at the instruction for changing a blog address, they seem to be about a xxx.wordpress.com blog, but I’m using this account for the Stats feature for a self-hosted WordPress blog.

If I go to “Manage My Blogs,” the only site listed is devvictoria.dev, and my only option is to “Register a WordPress.com Blog,” which is not what I want to do…I just want the listed blog to go back to my own website instead of the developer’s test site.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

The blog you specified at devvictoria.dev does not appear to be hosted at WordPress.com.

This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you’ll find help at the WordPress.org forums.

If you don’t understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may find this information helpful.

If you forgot to include a link to your blog, you can reply and include it below. It’ll help people to answer your question.

Dear supportbot – I know the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org.

The problem is that I have a wordpress.com account that is no longer functioning correctly, and I see no way to fix it.

So please, if someone can help me figure out how to get my wordpress.com account to point to victoriabrouhard.com instead of devvictoria.dev, I would really appreciate it.

    Thank you.

Not sure about the point to whatever – but http://www.victoriabrouhard.com/blog/ loads to a WordPress.ORG install with Thesis Theme – the site loads fine for me – the other site will not load for me – you are I think still in the wrong forum – but if your Web genius did some mapping with your domain name then it can take up to 72 hours for the changes to migrate to the far corners of the internet.

Thanks, auxclass…I know that victoriabrouhard.com loads fine, and that devvictoria.dev does not load.

What I’m trying to fix is my wordpress.com account itself, so I don’t see how the wordpress.org forum will help.

I’ve had this account for several years, it’s always had victoriabrouhard.com listed as a linked blog (and that was the only one listed), but now it’s been changed somehow and I just want to get it back the way it was.

    vbrouhard.wordpress.com doesn’t exist
    victoriabrouhard.wordpress.com doesn’t exist

If you are domain mapping from a .wordpress.com blog please provide the URL for that free hosted by WordPress.com blog.

  • I have removed that Jetpack connection from your account. You’ll need to reactivate and reconnect the Jetpack plugin with your current blog.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, macmanx!

I’m reactivated and reconnected and just waiting for the stats to kick in.

Going forward, is there some way I could have taken care of this myself? Or prevented it? Or is there a better way/place to ask for this kind of help in the future?

    Again, thank you!

  • You’re welcome!

Unfortunately, there’s no way to remove WordPress.com blogs from your own account yet, so we have to do that for you.

Typically, I recommend that you wait until the site is ready to launch, and at the correct domain, before you activate Jetpack.

    Okay, good to know.

So if some work needs to be done on the site, I imagine I should deactivate Jetpack before making a copy of the site to put on a test domain?

Also, my site is showing 0 for all stats. Is that because we had the reactivate and reconnect and therefore the history is lost?

    Yes, that would be best.

Also, my site is showing 0 for all stats. Is that because we had the reactivate and reconnect and therefore the history is lost?

Yes, because no stats have been recorded as victoriabrouhard.com yes.
