My alerts are no longer sowing in the side bar

  Hi, the little bell icon on the upper right hand corner of my screen has stopped displaying any notifications, and I just get the spinning ‘processing’ circle-graphic no matter how long I wait. Is WordPress having an issue with its site? Is there something I can do to fix it?
  Would love any information to resolve this technical issue.
