my already owned domain was assigned to a wrong site name.

Hi there,
2013 is probably before i joined wordpress but from some time in 2014 on should be what you are asking about. how can i get any of those to you?
We are not able to see your email directly, so you would essentially need to check your old emails and see if any of them contain a link to the site you are referring to. Essentially that is the info we need (the site address or URL) and we don’t really have another way to find it based on the info you have provided so far.
i am actually hesitant to click on anything i have because i am afraid that once i do, the links will update to “no information” rather than showing what was there originally.
You are referring to clicking on site links in your past emails? There is nothing to worry about here. If you click on a link to a WordPress.com site the link won’t update to show no info, though if it’s a site you renamed or deleted you may be taken to a page that says the site does not exist.
Regardless, if you find the URL of your past site when looking in your older emails, you can let us know the address and we would be able to look into it on our end to get more info.
Thanks!

I am still not completely sure what you are asking for. I have many old emails that have a button to take me to my comments on other WordPress sites. I also found a few emails to me from WordPress that have messages with a link to my account such as this:
“Congratulations again on creating your very own site at clewshad.wordpress.com…. If you’re a…”
When I click on the site it says “nothing found”
I don’t know how to find anything else if there is anything else to find.
It appears that all possible links and my existing information on the dandelions site have been deleted when someone tried to link dogagog.com and thepowerofdandelions.wordpress.com last week.
Isn’t there some kind of backup in such a situation to retrieve lost work & links?
At present both dogagog.com and thepowerofdandelions.wordpress.com ended up being set up wrong which is something that i did not do. I was and am still requesting the following:
1) A site called thepowerofdandelions.wordpress.com which is my original WordPress account since 2014 (that I changed from “clewshad…” prior to attempting to link the dogagog domain.
2) My domain dogagog.com which is registered at Weebly and pointed to WordPress. I want the two linked so that people will be able to search for and find/see dogagog.com .
There presently is a site on my account called dogagogdotcom.wordpress.com which is something i never requested and never set up myself. I don’t know where that name comes from and I don’t want it.
There does not seem to be any way to access dogagog.com, my domain registerd at Weebly, unless going via dogagogdotcom.wordpress.com. I want dogagogdotcom.wordpress.com removed completely.
Is it possible to have the sites the way I was originally requesting and expecting?
Also, I would like confirmation of what is going to be done to fix this situation before any more changes are made.
Thanks.

Hi there,
I checked your account @thepowerofdandelions, and the domain dogagog.com is currently connected to your site thepowerofdandelions.wordpress.com. Is there a chance you had the domain connected to a different site? If that’s the case, then can you remember that site’s URL?
Also, there’s another site named dogagogdotcom.wordpress.com that doesn’t have any content, and you might have accidentally created it.
-
The domain dogagog.com may currently be connected to thepowerofdandelions but in order to see the site dogagog.com I have to go to dogagogdotcom.wordpress.com which is not correct.
There is absolutely no chance that I willingly or knowingly created the site named dogagogdotcom.wordpress.com. If it was created accidentlally, I do not believe it was my mistake but perhaps accidentally generated by WordPress. I also wonder why you say dogagogdotcom.wordpress.com does not have any content. When I look at it I see the home page with “not your runofthe mill dogagog” that I created for the dogagog.com site home page.
I also do not know what you mean by “Is there a chance you had the domain connected to a different site? ” What do you mean by “different site”? I only have two sites. I have a domain called dogagog.com that is registered through Weebly that is pointing to WordPress with the intent to be linked to my other site, thepowerofdandelions.wordpress.com. These are the only sites I have. There are no different sites.
Please see the attached image. When I go to my wordpress account, this is what I see:

- not your runofthe mill dogagog (top – larger type in the image)
- dogagogdotcom.wordpress.com (next name right below #1 in smaller type)
- thepowerofdandelions (following name appearing below “Coming Soon” in image – in larger type
- dogagog.com (name right below #3 in smaller type)
#1 is a tagline that i created for my dogagog.com site and is supposed to be on the dogagog.com home page.
#2 is the site name I did not create. The dogagog.com home page appears on this page (dogagogdotcom.wordpress.com). dogagogdotcom.wordpress.com should not even exist and should not have dogagog.com or “not your runofthe mill dogagog” linked to it.
#3 thepowerofdandelions , apparently has been linked to dogagog.com but i can’t see dogagog.com here. I can only see thepowerofdandelions and when i click on “VIEW SITE” it takes me to another view of thepowerofdandelions with the message saying “NOTHING FOUND”. it shows the url as dogagog.com – and like i said, dogagog.com is not visible but should be.
# 4 dogagog.com , like i mentioned in #3 appears to be linked to thepowerofdandelions but can only be seen (as the home page only) as i have indicated in #1 which is not correct. there is no way that i can go directly to dogagog.com. I should be able to see the dogagog.com home page when I go to dogagog.com .
I would like to emphasize that I did not create the site name dogagogdotcom.wordpress.com. I don’t know where it comes from but it appears to be something that WordPress generated.
I hope these issues can finally be resolved. Thank you.

Thank you so much for all of the points of clarification. There are indeed many points that require clarification, however, I feel we need to take a step back for a moment and narrow our focus to trying to locate the site you originally started around 2014.
What we know so far about this site:
- You believe you started this site when you were user “clewshad“.
- You believe the URL of the original site was thepowerofdandelions.wordpress.com
Can you confirm those two things for us please?
Are there any other details you can share with us about this site that you can recall that might help us locate it? Any specific details like:
- The title or words that appeared at the top of the site
- Specific post titles you had published on the site over the years
- Did you ever write any of the posts on your computer and copy and paste into your site? If you did, do you still have any of the old stuff saved on your computer?
Lastly, view this URL please: https://d.pr/i/4fcmub – Is the image you see there the site you are trying to find which has content dating back to around 2014?

Shamefully “clewshad” was not a much used site. I could even say that at this point I’ve been so traumatized by this present experience that I don’t even remember what the clewshad site looked like a up to couple months back, or all that it contained. I just know that there were links and things some of which I also have in the emails from that time when the links and information were created. Having those in that format makes what is happening now, not a complete loss. By no means perfect, but I have to keep in mind that so many people in the world lose everything and still manage to persevere.
That could be enough. At this point, what I want to do is get this site going. I’ve been promising myself to do this “one fine day” for many years now, and now all this back and forth is just derailng my dream.
I feel that I have no choice but to accept that what is lost is lost and with that I can move on by working with what I do have.
All I want is a searchable and findable site called dogagog.com. (linked to my account here on WordPress). I still have my WordPress site which at this time is called thepowerofdandelions.wordpress.com. This WordPress account is why I chose to link dogagog.
I want this to be a place to post my poetry and then see what that eventually evolves into. Lots of extraneous stuff kept me from doing that between 2014 and up to several weeks ago. Now this going back and forth is doing the same thing. First and foremost is that I need a working site (dogagog.com). And consider too that I paid for it and am not being able to utilize it. Please lets just get things in order as i’ve indicated already, so I can proceed with launching my site.
Thanks

Hi @thepowerofdandelions , just to simplify this a bit, let’s focus on finding the content first, then we can sort out how to connect the domain to it.
Right now we know the content was not on this account or the sites associated with it, so we want to try to find the site link where it was hosted, even if it is gone now. Just having the right link will be helpful. And rest assured, the act of clicking or sharing those links won’t harm anything.
I have many old emails that have a button to take me to my comments on other WordPress sites. I also found a few emails to me from WordPress that have messages with a link to my account such as this:
“Congratulations again on creating your very own site at clewshad.wordpress.com…. If you’re a…”That’s the default email you get when you create a new site. Also the “nothing found” for that site makes sense, because there aren’t any posts on the site yet.
Can you try publishing a post here: https://wordpress.com/post to see the email you get when you write a post on the site? It can be a test post. I want you to see if you get an email. I think seeing what that looks like for you will help you look for similar “new post” emails for the older site, though they may be in some other email account.
-
Also, I do want to clarify: you sent a screenshot showing notifications about comments on other people’s sites. Do you have anything showing notifications about content on your site?
-
One more thought:
All I want is a searchable and findable site called dogagog.com. (linked to my account here on WordPress). I still have my WordPress site which at this time is called thepowerofdandelions.wordpress.com. This WordPress account is why I chose to link dogagog.
I want this to be a place to post my poetry and then see what that eventually evolves into. Lots of extraneous stuff kept me from doing that between 2014 and up to several weeks ago. We have been entirely focused on finding your old site. Maybe moving forward with the new one will be best. Publishing a post will be a good start, and then if you ever do remember what the old site link was, we can explore options for recovering old content then.

I am still requesting that my site be set up as i’ve already explained to you. Is this possible? The way it is now is wrong since the dogagog.com home page is linked to a mistake site name that i did not request and do not want called dogagogdotcom.wordpress.com.
The dogagog.com home page (which is grey and has the place holder heading of “NOT YOUR RUNOFTHE MILL DOGAGOG”, should appear on the other site where thepowerofdandelions & image of someone standing on a rock presently exists.
As things are now, and what I did not realize before starting this project, is that it appears that I can only have dogagog.com as an “other” thing somewhere hidden in thepowerofdandelions.wordpress.com (or on that mistake site name).
The way I envisioned this project was that my account here, that i am calling thepowerofdandelions, would be the place where my dogagog.com site would exist and be linked and that I would have dogagog.com living as an independent site that is searchable and findable as dogagog.com. Then I planned to set up and design the site according to my needs for posting my poetry. I thought that that is what upgrading to a paid account was all about.
I don’t really need a visible thepowerofdandelions site. It is fine for it to exist – because it is the name of my wordpress account. I understand that. But it is not the primary part of my dogagog.com website plan. Is my plan possible? Am I totally misunderstanding what is possible?
At present I am totally disappointed, frustrated and confused because each time I try to explain what I want, the responses I receive only suggest that I work with all the mistakes and not have what i want. What presently exists is not what I want and have come about due to unanticipated errors.
In the quote above you say “moving forward with the new one will be best“. But to me, this seems to mean that the “new one” is what i am stuck with presently and not what I was planning on.
The way it is set up now is wrong and I think I’ve explained what I want it to be. Please let me know what can be done to achieve this. And if what I am requesting and expecting is still unclear, please ask for further clarification and not offer suggestions that involve keeping things as is.
Again, I am hoping that this can be resolved and that I can have the website and account that I was planning and expecting. I’ve already wasted several days getting nowhere.
Thank you

Hi @thepowerofdandelions , thanks. I think this is where we’ve had some confusion.
I’ve reconfigured things so that dogagog.com shows the grey site with the title “NOT YOUR RUNOFTHE MILL DOGAGOG”. That’s how it was when we first started.
But, the underlying free address of that grey site is dogagogdotcom.wordpress.com. Do you mainly just want to change the free address so it doesn’t have dotcom in it? Your readers don’t really see that address once you’ve added a custom domain, but if it bothers you, it can be changed to any available free address.

Hi,
This looks right now. Thanks much !!! But I am wondering now, is it still within my paid account to also keep thepowerofdandelion ? For me, my “project” is just a home for my poetry on the dogagog site. But I do want thepowerofdandelions around. I just want to make sure I understand everything about my account, So I want you to know my ideas/plans for this project.
I’m not going to be making money on it and I’m retired so encountering unexpected expenses won’t be good. I would like to make sure that the way things are set up now, still all fall within the parameters of my recent upgrade to a paid account.
Maybe more ideas will present themselves as I go forward with this project so having things setup the way they are now will really help. I want to be sure that I don’t run into more confusting situations.
Another question is that doing a Google search for dogagog.com does get me to dogogag.com but on the Google tab and on the dogagog home page it says “page not found”. (sorry, screenshot is not loanding into this email). Is this because the site is not yet launched/published? Or is there still something else that needs to be resolved?
Now I’m ready to proceed with learning how to create/edit pages or whatever and getting things going. (I’ll likely be back with other questions).
Oh yes, before I forget, could you tell me what Gravatar is? Do I need it? I do seem to be registered with it – and that is ok, but I just don’t really understand its purpose.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi there,
But I am wondering now, is it still within my paid account to also keep thepowerofdandelion ? For me, my “project” is just a home for my poetry on the dogagog site. But I do want thepowerofdandelions around.
Currently the WordPress.com Premium Plan applies only to https://dogagog.com/, but you do also have thepowerofdandelions.wordpress.com under your account still as a site one the “free plan.”
You can confirm both of your sites are listed here: https://wordpress.com/sites/
You can see which sites are upgraded here: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/
Another question is that doing a Google search for dogagog.com does get me to dogogag.com but on the Google tab and on the dogagog home page it says “page not found”. (sorry, screenshot is not loanding into this email). Is this because the site is not yet launched/published? Or is there still something else that needs to be resolved?
If you are an anonymous visitor to dogagog.com (or if you visit, but you are logged out of your WordPress.com account) the site will appear like this, which is an indication that it’s not launched yet.

If you see that you can click the “Log In” button on the lower right to see it under your account, where you should be able to see the homepage without issue.
If you are logged in, and still see the error message, that sounds like a separate issue. If that is the case, please let us know the URL (page address) of the page you are on when you see the “page not found” message, so we can take a look. Also if you can tell us a little about how you got to that message, like did you click a button from another page? or were you typing the URL in by hand? That info will help us to retrace your steps.
Thanks!
