how to paste my amazon book link to a sidebar/widget
I understand that as a writer this is permitted as part of your code – but it gets stripped out and shows blank – even though Isee other bloggers have managed it -
You can’t use the actual widget code at WordPress.com. Just use the regular Text link or Image link and add whatever text you want.

Thanks. If i turn my blog into a website by upgrading can I do it then? If i use the test or image link will it show like the actual book as i have seen on other bloggers pages? at presetn at best it is just a link without a text or image to click on to go to the page. Also, at present does that mean I cant use associates links on wordpress, and make money from it, even though amazon approved my blog to do so?

Upgrading doesn’t turn your blog into a website. Blogs are a kind of website.
You cannot use your blog here to make affiliate income, with a few exceptions. If you want affiliate income blogging, you want to find a different host.
As I said, you can use the regular Amazon affiliate TEXT link to your book. You cannot use the widget code.

It’s fairly simple to use an image as a link that will work on WP.

It isn’t about what Amazon approves. It’s about what WP approves.

Exactly the same. Each upgrade here does only exactly what it says, so the Custom Domain upgrade gets you a nice whatever.com URL and nothing else.
