My avatar is now suppressed on a website.
-
I have been a regular commenter on maxkeiser.com. Today one of my comments went into moderation before being accepted – a change. The comment did get posted but my avatar was suppressed. When you click on my username, however, it still does link to my blog. All my subsequent comments have also had the avatar suppressed, but retain the link to my blog.
My question is whether there is the capability for a blog owner to suppress a particular person’s avatar?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

At Gravatar.com, people can set what level of Gravatar to display, eg XXX, Restricted, PG, or G. If you have set your Gravatar to XXX or something, then yes it can be hidden.
Mind you, if that blog is not a WordPress.com blog, they can do anything they want. Anything is possible.
-
Also, the blog owner can set gravatar restrictions as well. If your gravatar is rated “PG” at gravatar, but the blog owner sets there blog to show only “G” rated gravatars then yours would not show up.
-
My setting for my gravatar can’t have anything to do with this because my avatar was showing previous to this, but now it’s not, and I made no changes.
-
The blog OWNER could have made the change in their blog settings. Check your setting at gravatar.com and make sure it is set to “G”.
-
As I said, that’s an external blog; nothing to do with WordPress.com. They can deep six any avatars they want. I suggest you contact THEM for support.

At gravatar? Go to my account and then to manage gravatars and then hover your mouse over the image in the lower pane. You will see a delete icon (X) and then above that your gravatar rating. Click on the gravatar rating icon and you can then change it.
-
I doubt they have a setting that you can get to – you need to contact the web site – there is usually contact information somewhere – look under about
-
There’s a “Check this gravatar” but nothing happens when I hover over my avatar. (However, I don’t know what you mean by the lower pane. The pane is to the left of the text.)
I hit the “Check this gravatar” and all it shows is “How your gravatar looks on site using the following ratings” and then it lists G, PG, R and X and shows my avatar under each one!! It doesn’t tell me what I had set it for.
I’m sure I had set it for G, however.

At Gravatar.com, under my account > manage my gravatars on the lower area of that window will be a line of text something similar to “Select image (below) to use for the selected email (above) or add a new image”. If you hover your mouse over that image, to the right of the image appears the delete icon and then rating icon. If you click on the rating icon another window opens with the image above and the 4 ratings in boxes right below the image (and descriptions below that). Click on the box with the “G” in it and that sets your rating to “G”.

Can you give us a link to the site, and to the specific post where you made the comment?

@TSP
I recall this as a repeat issue, so to speak. Please see here noting the site may be the same one being referred to both in the OP above and in this thread. > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/my-personal-settings-are-correct-but-my-avatar-doesnt-link-to-my-blog?replies=7#post-484879 -
I just noticed she gave the (non-clickable) link to the site.
http://maxkeiser.com/ is not a wordpress.COM blog. It is a self-hosted blog and we here at wordpress.COM don’t have any connection or control over it.
You need to either check with the blog owner to see if they have been having issues with it, or with gravatar.com.
Also note that if you make a mistake on your email address when entering it, or use a different email address from the one that is tied to your gravatar account, your gravatar will NOT show up. Gravatars are tied to email accounts.

The post in question is “Rand Paul Sucks: Disturbing Video: Liberal Protester Tackled and Stepped on by Rand Paul Supporters.”
There are 173 Comments. The offending comment is not on the first page. Scroll down to the bottom and hit “Older Comments.” The comment I made that shows my avatar is at 7:42. The first comment without my avatar is at 7:53. I’m “Mary Rose.”
-
The only thing I can think of that would cause this is a typo in the email address when you made the comment. The rest of your comments on that page have your gravatar.
-
But when you click on my name, it still links to my blog. Also, I don’t think I had to type my email address. It’s pre-populated on the comment form.
Anyway, do you think there might be the capability for a blog owner to have the option to single out the avatars of certain commenters for this suppression, while leaving intact the link to the blog?
-
If it were possible, why would they leave some of them? It certainly ins’t something that is built into the wordpress software. With the wordpress software, it is either all or nothing. You either turn gravatars on or off and it affects everyone, not just one comment.
It was either an issue with the email address or some sort of random glitch.
