My blog design in dashboard doesn't match my actual blog – colours keep changing

  • Unknown's avatar

I set my background colour to deep purple for by blog header (Theme: intergalactic) and go for a lighter grey for the text because I’ve noticed that the text for my widgets in the black sidebar otherwise end up being black, so it appears that the “follow” button doesn’t appear or the button to go to my Flickr account.

i keep changing it in the design and it says “saved” but everytime i check it by typing in the address the text returns to black and so nothing is clear. It’s getting very frustrating as it doesn’t seem to be working at all. I’ve tried different colours, different computers, clearing the cache, different browsers…. none of it working.

I would upload prnt screens to demonstrate but isn’t allowing me to sadly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, it’s getting very stressful and I really like the theme so don’t want to change that aspect of it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you have not purchased the Premium bundle of upgrades http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ or the Business bundle http://store.wordpress.com/plans/business/ that include the custom design upgrade, note that no changes you try out aside from those such as Custom Background, Custom Header, etc. which are stated on the theme description pages in the features column (right hand side) will be visible to visitors.

WordPress.com sells custom design upgrades. They allow us to “preview” change that do not actually display on the blog unless we purchase the upgrade.

If you have not purchased the custom design upgrade, note that no changes you try out aside from those such as Custom Background, Custom Header, etc. which are stated on the theme description pages in the features column (right hand side) will be visible to visitors.

You do not need to load the design tools unless you have the Custom Design upgrade. All of these functions can be accessed from your dashboard – without loading the custom design tools – no upgrade required.
    Appearance > Header
    Appearance > Background
Appearance > Theme Options (applicable only to some themes)
Settings > Reading (set a static front page)
Site Title and Tagline > Settings > General

If you are using the preview mode for the Custom Design upgrade some of the settings in that mode will save but they won’t show up on the front end unless you purchase the upgrade.

To go back to the free options, go to Appearance → Themes → Customize → Colors and click the “exit the preview” link in yellow at the top of the panel on the right.

    Thanks for your response!
I have changed the colour of the header text via the Appearance > Header route through the dashboard (I have triple checked that my theme is free) to avoid any confusion with the purchased upgrades.

I change it via this way and similarly, the text changes to light grey (for which wordpress says it’s successful) and suggests I visit my site to see the changes and when I click that link it provides…. the text is still black. Despite it telling me it’s been successfully changed to light grey through the method you described above.

Hence I don’t understand why my changes aren’t actually occurring on my page despite doing it through the dashboard on a “free” theme.
