My blog has stopped displaying links and images for related posts.
-
I have the Reading Settings on my blog to show related content under each post, but this feature has stopped working. I tried unchecking and checking the relevant settings and re-saving them, but it’s still not working.
I have both of the following checked (but to no avail)
– Show a “Related” header to more clearly separate the related section from posts
– Use a large and visually striking layoutAny ideas as to how I should fix the problem or a bit of technical intervention by WordPress itself much appreciated.
Thanks. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Sarah,
I just checked your most recent post, and I see the related posts section at the bottom of the post there:
Is there a specific post where you’re not seeing that related posts section appear? If you send me a link to the post I’d be happy to take a closer look at it for you. :)

Hi Rachel
I still can’t see the related posts section under the bottom of any of my posts. My son just checked on his PC and it was the same for him. Until this last weekend, I used to get three related posts (with pictures) for visitors to click on, then it suddenly stopped working, removing all of the ones that were previously there.
Am bemused that you’re seeing them and I’m not. Will ask some of my followers, with whom I’m in email, contact to check on their PCs.
Thanks for responding to my query.

Hi Sarah,
It sounds like it could be an issue with your browser’s settings and add-ons/extensions. (That could explain why I’m seeing the related posts on my end but you aren’t.) Can you please try disabling any extensions in your browser and see if that makes a difference?
It looks like you’re using Firefox — you can go to Tools > Add-Ons and open the Extensions tab to disable extensions there. Please click the “disable” button next to all of the browser extensions and then reload your blog post to see if the related posts load there. If they do, you can turn on your extensions one-by-one to see which one is causing trouble.
If that doesn’t resolve it for you, please let me know and I’d be happy to continue troubleshooting this with you. :)

Hi Rachel,
There hasn’t been a problem before with any of my existing add-ons/extensions that I’ve had for ages. The only change I have made in the past few days was adding Norton Safe Search. I’ve just had one of the Norton engineers remove this by remote, as I could seem to be able to get rid of it myself via my control panel or by disabling it in add-ons. This is all fixed now, but still the related posts are not displaying. My son has Google Chrome as his browser and the same for him when viewing my blog. This is a mystery. I’ve sent an email to one of my WordPress friends to ask her to check.

Hi Sarah,
If you check your site from a different browser on your own computer do you run into the same problem? You can download the latest versions of popular browsers here: http://browsehappy.com/
It may help to download a browser you haven’t used before just to see what happens there — if the related posts work in that newly installed browser, that will help narrow down the possible suspects that could be causing the problem for you. :) (It’s possible your son has a similar setting, program, or browser extension that cause the same problem for him in Chrome. If we can narrow down the differences between browsers where it works and where it doesn’t, that will help resolve this.)

Hi Rachel,
I’ve just loaded my blog through Internet Explorer. Still nothing showing up.
If it was to do with browser extensions, why would it stop working if I’ve not added anything new and it was working before? The only thing that could have caused a problem was Norton Safe Search, but this has now been removed (albeit temporarily, if this proves not to be the culprit).

Hi Sarah,
I’m also puzzled about why it’s stopped working for you, especially as you mentioned it’s not working in either browser you’ve tried. But it’s definitely working for me on my end, so it must be something on your computer that’s keeping you from seeing those related posts.
It’s possible that the Norton software on your computer started to block that content. You mentioned that you removed Norton Safe Search, but do you still have other Norton software installed on your computer? You might try temporarily disabling it to see if that makes a difference for you.
If that doesn’t work, can you make a screenshot of what you see when you try to view those related posts? You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service like Snaggy. I’m hoping that will give me another clue to keep troubleshooting this for you.

Hi Rachel
I’ve used my Snipping Tool and uploaded a png file to my Media Library.Re my Norton Software, I’ve had it installed on my PC for 18 months and it hasn’t caused any issues with WordPress before. I’m not too happy to disable it (even temporarily), having experienced a total hard disk failure on my old PC, due to a virus. Feeling paranoid D:

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for that screenshot — I think I know what’s going on now. Are you looking at the front page of your site at http://sarahpotterwrites.com/? If so, the related posts won’t appear there.
They will only appear on single post pages like this one:
Can you please try clicking on that link to see if the related posts appear there for you? (You can also click the title of the post from your front page to get to that single post page.)

Hi Rachel
Yes, got it. I was convinced it usually showed up on the home page, but logic dictates otherwise. Obviously a senior moment, or my imagination has got the better of me!
Thanks for your patience. It seems my confusion is no more. And, as a plus, I’ve learned to use my Snipping Tool :-)

You’re welcome! I glad I could help clear that up — I hope you don’t mind the somewhat circuitous route I took to figure that out. :) Please let me know if I can do anything more to help!
