  Hi, I applied for WordAds a long time ago but never heard anything back. Now I am seeing ads on my site. As I have a no-ads upgrade, I’d like to know if this is through wordpress or some other company. And if it’s WordAds if I can expect to get paid for the advertising on my site.

  Those are definitely from WordAds, and you can control them via Settings -> WordAds in your blog’s Dashboard.

  I’m sorry you didn’t receive your announcement email. It is possible that it was caught as spam, as a few have been recently.
