My blog is showing adverts (even though I pay No Ads) that trigger my antivirus.

My site is showing adverts that often trigger my antivirus software, and I’m seeing ads embedded in my posts even though I specifically pay for the ‘No Ads’ add-on. I have had this site since 2009, and I’ve never seen anything like this before. It isn’t a local issue, as several visitors have reported the same thing to me on their own phones and PCs. I can also see other people on these forums with similar issues. What is going on?! Please help!

I am now also getting redirects that look absolutely atrocious. I refuse to believe this is some massive coincidence when I can see other people on these forums facing similar issues. Is anyone at WordPress going to take this seriously?

I completely understand how frustrating it must be to experience this—especially when you’re paying for the No Ads add-on and still seeing unwanted behavior on your site.
I’ve escalated your concern to the appropriate team, and I’ll follow up with you as soon as I receive more information.
In the meantime, could you please send us screenshots of the ads and redirects you’re encountering? This will help us investigate the issue more effectively. You can email them to help@wordpress.com, and we’ll take a closer look right away.
Thank you for your patience, and rest assured we’re taking this seriously.

Thank you for replying, @kaichicha. The issue appears to have resolved itself, for now (fingers crossed). Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to take any screenshots earlier. However, I would still appreciate it if you could please look into this, as I found it fairly alarming. I did reach out directly to the support team, but I’ve only had an AI response so far…
My antivirus was blocking a redirect to linktracker.xyz on the computer and flagging it as malvertising, and when I checked on my iPhone, I was getting redirected to a fake McAfee virus scan page. One of my site visitors also said they were seeing embedded ads after each paragraph on my most recent post (and when I refreshed, I could see the same). I can see that a few other users on here have reported similar issues with regard to malvertising and redirects.Apologies if I sounded upset/flustered in my previous messages. Although I have been using the free version of WordPress since 2009, I do pay for Custom CSS, No Ads and Domain Connection each year. In all the years I’ve been running my site, I’ve never seen anything like this; I just hope it doesn’t reoccur!

Thanks so much for letting us know, @alternativemagazine. It’s completely understandable to feel concerned.
The good news is that this issue was reported, and our team has already fixed it, so everything should now be working properly. I really appreciate you sharing those details, and I’m glad to hear things seem to have resolved on your end too.
Please let us know if you have any questions or need any extra help, and we’ll be happy to assist you. -
Has WordPress been compromised? Seems something’s been hacked by scammers for a least a few days and nothing’s been done about it, should we be getting any personal data off her asap?

Hi there,
We’ve identified and resolved an issue that was causing unexpected redirects or ad behavior on some sites, even for users with a No Ads upgrade. This may also have triggered security software alerts or caused your site to be flagged temporarily.
The issue should now be fully resolved. If you’re still experiencing any unusual behavior, please let us know — we’ll be glad to continue investigating.

It’s not resolved.
2025-07-12T15:23:31The last week or two my WordPress blog has been suffering from malicious ads, which are attempting to redirect blog viewers to suspicious sites which are being intercepted by my Norton anti-virus software. This can occur randomly while scrolling through the page. What’s up WordPress, why the switch from benign ads to malicious?I was scrolling through my blog just half an hour ago when I suffered a malicious redirect which was intercepted by my computer’s Norton virus software.
Either WordPress itself has been hacked or you have a new (very foolish) policy to put the squeeze on WordPress bloggers. Either way this will cause immense reputation damage.
My best advice is to WordPress is to tell the truth because cannot be swept under the carpet.

Hi there,
I appreciate your patience while we reviewed this on our end! Our new ads partner has implemented a fix that should take care of the scam-type ads. Please let us know if you continue to see them.
Warm regards,
