My blog looks awful in Internet Explorer
-
Hi,
I’m new to WP and I’ve read several posts about the issue of blogs looking different in various browsers. Still, mine at http://petiteshards.com looks especially awful in IE. (I’m working on a MacBook and using Safari. I checked my blog on my older PC, which has IE.).I’ve tried changing the font size in IE and using the full screen, but nothing works. The main blog column seems squished, cutting off photos I have centered and shifts others down that were ragged right. The buttons across the top are also huge.
When I compare the layouts of this site, http://photoladylove.com, in Safari and IE, the sidebar shifts to the bottom, but the photo layouts remain the same.
Is there any way to fix this problem on mine or should I switch themes? And if I switch themes, I have to reload all content?
Thanks in advance for any help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The first url you posted is to a “private” blog so we cannot see what you mean. You did not tell us what theme you are using and what exactly you mean by “looks awful” so we can’t either agree or disagree with recommending a theme change as we lack details.
The second url you posted has a ‘ (comma) at the end that renders it useless but I’ll post it without the terminal punctuation so it can be clicked http://photoladylove.com

Is the version of the IE browser you are using to view your blog with IE6? If so IE^ drives web designers crazy. It’s a problematic browser that many web designers refuse to design for. Did you know you can check how your theme displays in multiple browsers free of charge by using http://browsershots.org

Everyone’s blogs look different in IE. It’s on IE’s end. I took my images and links from the sidebar and put them into pages because it looked horrible on IE. My Myspace page looks different in IE too.

Thanks for the speedy replies.
Sorry about the setting. I changed it to private while I worked on the blog. I changed it back to open and used http://browsershots.org. Thanks for that link. It was helpful and I’m hoping to fix the problem by moving over the photos or re-sizing them.
Also, I’m using the Rounded theme and have a few more questions:
1. Does the dpi of my images matter? I didn’t change them to 72 before uploading to the media library. Could that be part of the problem, too?
2. Where do I find the the width size of my columns so I’ll know the maximum width for images and the video player? What should I be looking for in the CSS style sheet?
Thanks again!

1. Actually the DPI of the images don’t matter since that part of the header information in the image file is completely ignored by browsers. Everything defaults to 72 DPI for display on the web. The DPI setting in image editing programs is really only for print media. I would however suggest optimizing your images so that they are less that 100k file size each, and less that 50k is even better. It means that things load much faster for those with slower internet connections.
2. This blog post by Panos is the best reference for post image widths: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/maximum-image-width/ . Since you are using a flexible width theme, the maximum image size is based on the minimum width the theme will go to when the browser window is narrowed down. That makes flexible width themes difficult to work with when it comes to images.
