My blog post has vanished! Please can you help?
-
Hello,
I wrote and posted an article, Richard III’s Coronation, on 6 July 2013, but I discovered earlier tonight that it has “disappeared”, as it keeps coming up “Not Found”.
As far as I know, I certainly did NOT delete it.
Please can you help?
Regards,
CarolynThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks for your message. I’ve checked in the Trash folder but it is not there. As far as I know, I did not delete it.
-
Hope you have checked the drafts and other folders. Are you the only admin/ owner/ user of your blog? Could some one else who has access to your blog deleted the post?
-
Yes, I’ve checked them too. I’m the only one who is the admin of the site, which is why it is a complete mystery why it has “disappeared”.

Hi there! Can you give me the link you’re trying to visit that keeps coming up with ‘Not Found’?
-
I am thinking this is the article the user is trying to find. Archive.org also doesn’t seem to have a copy of this one except for the URL.

I’m having exactly the same problem, carolynmcash. This post has disappeared: http://committingsociology.com/?p=1811
-
This is the link https://carolynmcash.wordpress.com/2013/07/06/richard-iii-coronation/.
Hope this helps.

I fear that my system may have been hacked. As such, can you tell me precisely when this post was deleted: http://committingsociology.com/?p=1811
-
p.s. This is, more or less, what the deleted post looked like (I’ve recreated it): http://committingsociology.com/2015/05/27/dis-disease/

Is your blog on WP or was it self-hosted? I have another website using WordPress, which is self-hosted, and was hacked into in late March/early April. This article was linked to this web page.
-
@carolynmcash – It looks like that post was reverted to Draft status:
https://carolynmcash.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=738&action=edit
Just update it to published and the URL will start working again. :)
@johnnyfaithful – Can you tell me the title of previous post? Or the date it was published on?
-
@shawnajroberts That was one I recreated the other day, in case the original couldn’t be found. The original had two more pictures in it.
-
It looks like you sent the original post to the trash – https://carolynmcash.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=trash&post_type=post
You can restore it from there by putting your cursor over the title of the post and selecting “Restore”.
-
@shawnajroberts. Thanks. I’ve just had a look but it seems to be a copy of the new one, as there is only one picture. The original post had three.
-
Thanks for taking a look. I see in your blog’s log that you deleted a post at “carolynmcash.wordpress.com/2013/07/06/richard-iii-coronation/” about 11 months ago. That post was then permanently deleted from the trash 30 days later.
I think that may be the one you’re looking for.
Unfortunately, I can’t restore that post at this point. But we can make sure that your new post has the same URL as the old one so you don’t lose readers who were linked to that post.
First, you’ll want to delete this post:
https://carolynmcash.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=741&action=edit
And then, head into your trash and delete it permanently:
https://carolynmcash.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=trash&post_type=post
Once you’ve done that, head back to the replacement post you’ve created:
https://carolynmcash.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=738&action=edit
Underneath the title you’ll see:
Permalink: https://carolynmcash.wordpress.com/2013/07/06/richard-iiis-coronation-2/
We’ll want to remove that “-2” so click on the Edit button next to that link. There you can remove the “-2” and click OK.
You need to delete the other post permanently from your trash before trying to remove the “-2”, otherwise it won’t work.
Let me know if I can help further!

@shawnajorberts Thanks for your message. However, I definitely didn’t delete the article at all, let alone deleting it from the trash, which was why I said it had “disappeared”.
I have back-ups sent by e-mail but there’s nothing in the folders.
Can you help with self-hosted websites? Mine was hacked into about two months ago, and all the content was lost. Is there any chance it can be retrieved. We tried using the backups sent by e-mail but there were nothing in them.
