My blog seems to have disappeared

JetPack emailed me to say that my blog was down. Now when I log into WordPress, all of the content seems to have disappeared. It’s like a brand new blog. There is nothing in trash, and no trace of the previous content can be found. I cannot log into the wp-admin for the website because it does not load.

    WP.com: Unknown
    Jetpack: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your domain http://travelogueblog.net/ redirects to https://travelogueblog.wordpress.com/ which has never been used since February 29, 2008.

It looks like the blog has not been used since February 29, 2008, however, that’s not the case. This is what I meant when I said it looks like a brand new blog. I started posting content on travelogueblog.wordpress.com in 2013, and it has now suddenly disappeared.

I am unable to log into travelogueblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin. This is the error message I receive:

“User neurohrpierpaoli Cannot Access the Dashboard Requested
You are logged in as “neurohrpierpaoli” and do not have the necessary privileges to access the dashboard for “My Weblog”. If you are not “neurohrpierpaoli”, please log out, and log back in with your username. If you are “neurohrpierpaoli” and you need access, please ask an administrator of the site to invite you.

If you reached this screen by accident and meant to visit one your own sites, here are some shortcuts to help you find your way.

    Your Sites”

But then no sites are listed.

  • Hi there,

To clarify, the site travelogueblog.wordpress.com was created 02-29-2008 but the account you are logged in under (neurohrpierpaoli) was created in 06-25-2013. In this case someone logged on to WordPress.com 5 years before you, and created travelogueblog.wordpress.com. It does not have your content because it is a site created by someone else, several years before your account existed in our system.

Instead, from what I can see the site travelogueblog.net has been hosted with GoDaddy (who is also a provider of WordPress sites) for at least the last 9 years when I look at your domain history:

We can’t help directly because we don’t host your site on our WordPress.com managed business hosting. As a result we don’t have the ability to take a closer look at your site.

Your host (GoDaddy) uses the open-source variant of the WordPress platform which functions differently than what we offer here on WordPress.com and limits our ability to help. As well your host is who maintains their own hosting and backups, we do not have backup data for sites that are hosted with other providers.

With this in mind I recommend contacting GoDaddy support for assistance with recovering any data they have stored in their internal backups to get your site back online. Hope this helps point you in the right direction!

I created the Travelogueblog WordPress site in 2013 with the username NeurohrPierpaoli. I don’t know where this leap day date in 2008 is coming from, and I don’t understand how all of the content could just suddenly up and disappear. I have contacted GoDaddy and they said contact WordPress.

I think there’s some confusion here. Your site travelogueblog.net appears to be hosted with GoDaddy. For some reason, your domain is redirecting to aforementioned WordPress.com site.

Checking your domain in the Archive.org Wayback Machine, there’s a very different website that was online as of January of this year which does not look like the WordPress.com site we’ve been mentioning previously.

Therefore, with your domain nameservers pointing to GoDaddy and that archived site also showing a site not hosted with us but a site using the Jetpack plugin connected to your WordPress.com account – you’ll need to go back to GoDaddy and see why your domain is not loading your website and instead redirecting to WordPress.com.

GoDaddy might be confused between us – WordPress.com which is a managed WordPress hosting provider – and the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) that you’re using on your website. But they should still have your site files and be able to reassign your domain to your WordPress installation.

We cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers.

    Best of luck.

I just called GoDaddy again, and the tech support said the host was currently pointing to an Amazon server, which was confirmed via whoishostingthis.com. I asked them to redirect to the GoDaddy server which they agreed to do, and they said any changes would be visible between 2 and 48 hours from now.

I just want to be clear, nothing has changed on my end. I woke up to an email from Jetpack on 11/6 saying that there was a server error (Error reference: 54425473/server). I’m not sure how the server might have randomly switched, because I did not do it.

As for the wordpress.com account, the domain travelogueblog.net is registered with GoDaddy and may have been hosted with them, but it has always redirected to travelogueblog.wordpress.com. What you see on the WaybackMachine was created on travelogueblog.wordpress.com by me in 2013. I don’t know why it looks like someone else created it in 2008 and never used it again, but that’s not correct. I created it in 2013 and uploaded content until about 2015.

  • Hi there,

The fact that you own the domain travelogueblog.net doesn’t mean that you own the similarly named .wordpress.com address (travelogueblog.wordpress.com).

travelogueblog.wordpress.com was created back in 2008 and has no content at all. It was created by a different WordPress.com account than the one you’re currently logged in to. Furthermore, according to our logs, it was never connected with your domain travelogueblog.net.
