My blogroll has disappeared!

  • Unknown's avatar

At some point last week, my blogroll disappeared from the sidebar. Attempts to resuscitate it have been unsuccessful.

At the moment my Widget section says the blogroll is added to the sidebar, and my links section has all the links it’s always had.

    Anybody had similar issues?

    Thanks for any help!

You did try removing the widget, saving and then adding it again and resaving?

Oh Jennifer, I’ve tried just about everything. I even deleted the categories I had and the links associated with them to make things as simple as possible.

I’m wondering if WordPress updated anything recenlty…

Maybe it sounds obvious but, if there aren’t any links in your Links menu, the Links Widget (blogroll) will be empty. Does that sound dumb? Am I missing something? Probably.

Looking at the source code I don’t even see the Links widget noted, so I can only assume that it’s not actually there even if it says so in the Dashboard>>Widgets. Barring that http://support.wordpress.com/contact/

Last night I figured out the issue: All links must have a category assigned to them; if they don’t, they won’t show on the blog. I created a category called “Blogroll” and added my blog links to it, and now they show up on my blog’s widget bar under the header “Blogroll”.

I only wish WordPress had let me know they had changed their code, because until 2 weeks ago (or whenever it was) links that didn’t belong to any category still showed up on the sidebar.

Thanks for your mental expenditure, Jennifer!
