As I said, they can get your stuff off of your RSS feed. It’s not necessary that they get it off of Google. And I was on Google long before I verified my blog with Google. They found me without me doing it.

A bit of clarification: under US copyright law, protection exists from the moment of creation/em>, not publication. This protects people who send manuscripts to literary agents or publications and by extension protects everyone who creates something subject to copyright. It’s rare, but not unheard of, for rejected manuscripts to appear later in, um, eerily familiar form.

i’m not a us citizen so I guess us copyright laws don’t apply to things I create / publish.
Plus I’m just the owner of the text, not the videos, images etc

US law applies to our WordPress.com blogs; you may also have copyright issues/claims of a different nature, in a different country, if that’s the country where you created the artworks. But we agree to have legal disputes arising from our WP.com blogs resolved in US courts: that’s in the Terms of Service.

Yes it’s a serious site. Just how serious is up to you to determine and that can only be done by reading. Here’s an excerpt from their FAQs:

If you want to get any action out of Google Adsense, the form I’ve printed on my post has to be filled out and either faxed or snail-mailed to them, with your signature. Email they won’t do, which is amazing but that’s the way it is.And as I pointed out on that post, once you have the letter on file, filling it out and sending it takes only a few minutes for each new case, and the results are pretty quick. Within 24 hours they took down the post they had stolen from me.

No, you do not have to pay to get a copyright. You own copyright from the moment you create an original work (there are a few countries which don’t recognize copyright, but they are only a handful and not likely to be a factor in the blogosphere at the moment).
FWIW, I’ve killed off several blogs just by reporting them to Google. I do NOT use the legal form they tell you in email is required: I just keep using their online form and reporting every single violation. It has taken anywhere between three days and a week and a half to get the blog’s adsense pulled, but it does work.
