My blog's FB share button isn't featuring the featured image

  My Blog’s FB share button isn’t behaving properly. I’ve determined that in order for the FB share button to share with the correct picture from my blog posts, I need to specify a featured image. However, upon searching for the featured image option where the support pages led me to, I found that my site’s theme (“Big Brother”) doesn’t support featured images. This is problematic as it is very important that the share button posts the picture related to the article rather than the first image it sees (which incidentally happens to be one of my sidebar images). I also have custom CSS work that I would like to keep as is, and switching to a theme that does support featured images would screw up my site’s interface. I would have to hire another person to rework the CSS and I’d rather not do that.

  I’ve read elsewhere on the internet that activating that feature only requires adding one line of code to the theme. Is it possible that someone at WordPress.com can add the Featured Images feature in the Big Brother theme?

  Hi Jeremy,

  The Big Brother theme was designed not to include featured images — that was an intentional choice made by the theme’s creator. With that theme, I’d recommend adding pictures to your posts directly. To make sure they are shared on Facebook, please be sure to upload pictures that are at least 200 x 200 pixels. (Facebook won’t use pictures if the image file is smaller than that, even if they are displayed at larger sizes on the blog post itself.)

  Thanks for the info. However, that doesn’t help me for individuals that visit my blog and want to share it with the featured image.

  If you have another image in your post that’s large enough for Facebook (at least 200 x 200 pixels), that image will be shared when someone uses the Facebook sharing button even if it isn’t the featured image on the post.
