My blog’s gone gray….

  • Unknown's avatar

The gray from the right-hand column containing my recent posts, blogroll, widgets, etc., has exuded left over the text of my blog. How can I fix this? *THANK YOU!* (((((HUGS))))) sandi

The background colour for the sidebar is hardcoded into the theme to be gray in colour. And your blog appears “normal” using a firefox 2.0.0.3 browser.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks timethief! You are forever comin’ to the rescue! ~smile~ Still gray from my end (with a few added berger dots), but it’s really not the end of the world. (((((HUGS))))) sandi

  • Unknown's avatar

The sidebar widget background is coded to be gray.

  • Unknown's avatar

As TT said, it’s ok in FF. But it’s messed up in IE (used the IE tab extension in FF to check – but also opened IE7).

The side bar is fine, but that gray background color extends into the post area.

Strange part is that I use the same theme and my blog looks fine (checked with IE tab in FF).

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for looking at it in IE katm. It seems like tomorrow is feedback time for titus2woman because staff help is required.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yup. Agreed.

And IE tab is really helpful. You might want to find it on the extensions page.

  • Unknown's avatar

lol .. you’re trying to get me a firefox girl to use IE … lol … I’ll consider it ;)

  • Unknown's avatar

    LOL!

No… I’m a FF girl too. All the way.

It’s an extension that sits down in the bottom tray. You click it if you want to use the IE rendering engine within FF. That way you don’t have to open IE to check how things render in it.

    [edit]
If you look at this screen cap (taken for a totally different reason), you’ll see the FF logo about a third of the way in from the right. If you click that, it changes to the IE logo and it’ll reload the page using the IE rendering engine and you’ll see the page as it would look in IE.

    titus2woman,
It looks like there is a problem with the HTML in the “Homeschool with Index cards” text widget or the one above it (BlogMommas). FF is dealing with it but IE is not. Have a look in those text widgets and see if you can see any errors. It may be to do with an extra
<li> tag, but I cannot be sure. The reason I think it is is that every item after that is being marked with a bullet.
    Steps:
First try removing each widget in turn, saving the change and then check the site. This should identify which widget is at fault.
    Check that widget for errors.
If you cannot find an error, post the HTML back here between backticks (the apostrophe at the top left of your keyboard) and let us have a look.

Y’all are AMAZING, but ya don’t speaka my language! LOL! I just redid the BlogMommas and Index Card widgets by deleting and repasting what they’ve given me~it’s all I know how to do.

Please explain again~I’m so sorry! What is the HTML? LOL!

    Here’s the index card one: <img src=”http://homeschoolwithindexcards.com/images/HomeschoolwithIndexCardsButton.gif”>

    Here’s the BlogMommas one: <center><b>BlogMommas.com</b><br></center>
    <center>Join |
    List |
    Random</center>
    <div align=center>Powered by RingSurf</div>
    </div>

Please forgive me for not understanding the backtick thing~I do see it on my keyboard, but that’s about as far as I get! TERRIBLE, isn’t it? I am sooo thankful and appreciative of y’all! (((((HUGS))))) sandi

press the key with the backtick on it before you paste your code, then press the backtick key again after your code.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hmmm… I use blogrings (or whatever that service is called) on my blog, but not in a text widget. Those widgets usually are done in tables, but it’s hard to tell if titus2woman’s is a table because of the code not displaying.

If it is a table, I wonder if IE is choking on the table code within a widget.

    *THANK YOU, judyb12!*

    </div>

    <a href="http://homeschoolwithindexcards.com"><img src="http://homeschoolwithindexcards.com/images/HomeschoolwithIndexCardsButton.gif"></a>

Is that any better? I still think y’all are very wise! (((((HUGS))))) and *THANK YOU!* for all of your help! ~sandi

  • Unknown's avatar

    Sandi.

Try dragging the text widget with the ring surf stuff back down out of the side bar. See if it clears up.

There’s nothing in the homeschool one that IE should choke on.

And let me see if I can replicate the problem on my test blog. It’ll take me a few minutes to switch the theme and everything

  • Unknown's avatar

    Oh yeah.

It’s something in that webring code that screwing things up. I can even see it in FF although it looks different than in IE.

I put all that webring stuff on a static page. That’s probably the way to go.

  • Unknown's avatar

You mean create another page~like the About Me? *THANK YOU!* (((((HUGS))))) sandi

  • Unknown's avatar

That’s exactly what I mean. There’s one on my blog called “Web Rings”.

  • Unknown's avatar

Got it – the BlogMommas one has two </div> tags at the end. Only one is needed.
    [Update]
In fact, you can probably replace the whole last line:<div align=center><a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/">Powered by RingSurf</a></div> </div>
    with
    <center><a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/">Powered by RingSurf</a>
Try that – it should work.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yup. Just take that extra div tag out and you can stick it back in your sidebar.

I just checked and it works.
